Sabre Duelling
Sabre Duelling is a common sport throughout the central kingdoms and even the outer continents of Tuono's Corpse. The sport is thought to have developed in the Doric region where the more advanced military organisation then led to organised events to determine the skill of soldiers and thus their combat ability. Originally the sport was mainly confined to the nobility, and those of lesser standing were prohibited from partaking in any duels armed with swords or sabres outside of general warfare, this custom has largely been relaxed, fully in some jurisdictions, in others, there are still rules as to the specifics of the weapons used. Such restrictions can be observed in the Duchy of Alva where non-nobles are restricted from using the customary long sabres and are restricted to shorter variations or in the Grand Duchy of Canyndor where only nobles may have sabres with embedded jewels and/or precious metals.
Sabre Duelling, though there are notable exceptions, is largely based around two opposing duelists who will attempt to score points by cutting and striking their opponents. Due to the dangerous nature of the sport, it has evolved to allow a style that relies on relatively light contact with the opponent, minimizing the risk of serious injury to either party. This has developed a style of sabre swordsmanship that relies heavily on close-quarter grappling and blade manipulation as opposed to the more traditional strike-and-riposte form of sabre duelling that might be seen between two opponents duelling to the death.
Sabre Duelling, though often a sport reserved to the wealthy, is a highly valued and respected sport among the masses who flock to venues such as Tamellas in the Doric region or even within royal gardens such as the many duels held at the Cedorian Citadel.
