Tamellas of Doria
Tamellas are a type of arena common to the south-eastern lands of Doria, in which hand-to-hand and lightly armed combat take place. Unlike the spectacle sport common in other areas of the central kingdoms, Tamellas are specialised specifically for duels between two opponents who would fight only using their fists, daggers or swords (although on occasion other weapons would be used). The combatants would wear little to no armour as the combat was to take place until one participant was sufficiently injured so as they could no longer compete, though in practice this generally meant the first to draw blood wins. As such, the combatants were often very skilled fighters, often coming from the noble classes and earned significant winnings fighting for the crowds of which there were many. Tamellas usually consist of a small central square or circle where the fight would take place, and built up around it would be several tiers of viewing platforms and/or seating. The fights would often attract a significant amount of betting from the viewing public, leading to even further riches being available for the winner and lucky viewers, many venues even allowing for the participation of lowborn folk to take part in combat. The grandest of Tamellas, the Citrine, is located in Canyndor and hosts the most prestigious of fighters and attracts very notable guests, Grand Duke's being known to view the fights often, though many other luxurious venues can be found in the populous centres throughout Doria.
