Nuonela Palace

Nuonela Palace is a grand estate located in the cosy river valleys of the Doric Mountains. The central building of the complex stands resolute on the hillside, its white-washed walls allow it to be seen for miles around, the gardens and fields that surround it, dotted with smaller building for servants and storage, allow for all manner of activities such as training of falcons or Sabre Duelling. The Palace was first built during the reign of Grand Duchess Katariina, the Lioness of Doria, who had decided to use the spoils of war gained in battles against the Alvarian Kingdom to build herself a new summer palace to escape the growing metropolis of Canyndor.   The site she had chosen was no coincidence, it lay upon the grounds where an old Maijalan castle had once stood, torn down by her 5th-greatgrandfather, Grand Duke Valtteri. The palace was lavish even by standards of those who would live centuries after it was built, its many grand halls and chambers served just about any purpose the Grand Dukes that would come to inherit it could possibly concieve. Though the cost at the time would have been such as to completely mitigate any gains from the many minor wars the Lioness would undertake, the following owners of the palace would also spend grand amounts on renovating the estate, most recently Grand Duke Tapani VII spent as much as thirty-thousand Kupar on Nuonela, including the installation of a state-of-the-art pipe-heated bathhouse to ease his old aching bones.
