Grand Duke Valtteri

Grand Duke Valtteri, also known as the Kincrusher or Nurobrand, became renowned after assuming his cousin's title as Grand Duke of Canyndor despite being more distantly related to the late Grand Duke than another claimant, Olavi Maijalan. This would culminate in the Succession of the Suns civil war between the Ilkitala and Maijalan families. He would gain renown as a fierce warrior, as soon after assuming his title, and granting his son the holding of Anttula which was once his own, Olavi has mobilised an army from his holding in Ilpamett where they would occupy Anttula to bolster his claim on the Grand Duchy's throne. This would escalate quickly into an all-out civil war which would see Ilkitala and their local allies (as well as a small number of military dettachments from the Kingdom of Sarbrynia) battle against the Maijalan's and their allies, which included the Maijalan Duke of the Dales and even help from the Kingdom of Durabryn. Valterri was ruthless in his battles against the Maijalan forces, quickly repelling them back into the heart of the Baneswood and the Dales. He became infamous for duelling his opponents and often killing them during the fight. Even when he had declared victory over the Maijalan forces, he began a campaign of stripping the Maijalan family of its titles and holdings within his domain, only a few who swore undying loyalty and the Duke of the Dales were spared. Due to this, many with grievances continued fighting long after this supposed victory with armies being mustered in secret and surprise battles fought for control of strategic holdings. This would give rise to the modern military practice of soldier listings, originally employed in the Succession of the Suns War to help determine friend from foe in a conflict which split the populace, even families by opinion. Though in contemporary times Valtteri is seen as a great warrior and hero, having secured the Grand Duchy under a strong ruler and kept it independent from outside interference, he became very controversial during his rule, his name even becoming increasingly rare, his opponents saw him as a cruel overlord and sought his own personal gain over the greater good of Doria. This sentiment was especially strong amongst those of a Doric nationalist persuasion such as the Stonecheeks.
