Battle at Rebelly Row

The battle of Rebelly Row was a pitched battle fought between the Doric forces led by Prince Turo and the Aijian forces led by King-Elect Andelwyn, the battle being fought amongst the fields that line Rebelly Row, a long road that passed through the village of Rebelly. The battle began with the Doric forces being at a numerical disadvantage, being outnumbered 3:2 roughly. Prince Turo was, however, a confident commander and used his cavalry extensively to charge the Aijian forces while his infantry held their position on a high ridge. This tactic saw mild success however later in the battle, Prince Turo would charge the Aijian infantry hoping to route them, if he had been successful this may have won the battle, however, the infantry stood strong and Prince Turo's cavalry broke upon them. Prince Turo himself escaped the snare but was pursued by the Aijian lancers who would outmanoeuvre the Prince and slay him on the battlefield. Due to the lack of leadership, the units of the Doric army that did not flee stayed static on the high ridge and were slowly encircled. They were slaughtered, it is estimated that over half of the Doric forces deployed in the battle would die on the battlefield making the battle the bloodiest of the war.   The battle has become infamous in Doric culture, especially due to the high number of casualties many of whom were from the noble classes, much of the blame being laid at the feet of Grand Duke Arttu. Many of the fields that lay around the site have been dubbed the widow fields, an observer to the aftermath would note that the bodies would lie in the field for months after the battle, the locals and the family of the deceased scouring the lands for their parted loved ones. While many of those who had left Doria under the banner of the Grand Duke many months previous were of the older generations, men who had seen the better part of life and would leave their lands to their sons and wife, those in the army of Prince Turo were young and promising nobles who were on the precipice of influence and power. It is estimated as many as two hundred minor noble houses were left without an heir after the battle.
