Red Oak Radio Tower

Nestled in the forest, a great steel beast stretches toward the sky, seeming to compete with the surrounding pines for sunlight. The Red Oak Radio Tower stands upon a ridge, overlooking the vast forest down to the Pacific Coast. It provides the most reliable stream of interest for Red Oak Bluffs and neighboring territory, having been built directly by the town for local service. Other telecommunications exist and are beloved, of course, but to the town the radio tower is something special. For Red Oak Bluffs, the radio tower is a constant, rarely faltering even in the worst storms. No matter the weather, no matter the disaster, people can always tune in to the radio thanks to the tower. As a significant feature of the Red Oak community, it has become a feature of town events, with bright colors being painted on it in the spring, and more solemn thanks ceremonies performed in the autumn.   Along with hosting the radio communications for the town, the tower serves almost as a lighthouse for anyone who is lost in the forest. If they can get to a high point or a patch of clear sky, the sight of the radio tower can guide them back home. Many times, lost hikers and even people stranded on the roads have said they could feel some kind of pull, as if something had guided them to the tower, leading to a place where they could signal for help or walk into town. At one point in the town's history, the town council decided to be pragmatic with this trend, and built a small supply hut and safe station within the steel struts. It is often manned by a ranger, especially during peak hiking season, who can administer first aid or coordinate searches.
