Radio Stattion 83.3 KNTC

KNTC, or Kinetic 83, is the most popular radio station in Red Oak Bluffs. Its music of choice during the day is classic rock, interspersed with local news sections and comedy hours. In the evening the station features a variety hour, where music from any genre is on the menu. At night, solipsistic talk shows and call-in shows take center stage, with breaks for music.KI

Structure

The hierarchy in the station is loose, but there are some clear standouts in the pecking order. At the bottom are the various assistants in their many roles: sourcing news articles and segments, setting up local events, errand running, and general work.   Immediately, the chain of command splits here. Next up are Junior Technicians, who handle IT as they take on apprenticeships for electrical work. As Junior Techs train, they tend to get pulled away from the "laid back" section of station culture. Their mentors are frequently more dour in attitude, frustrated by the uncharacteristic number of repairs they need to make for a radio station.   Although technically at the same level as the remaining positions, the newspeople don't have as much pull as the show hosts and DJs. Without much news to report, they simply get less airtime than their coworkers, who inevitably become the face of KNTC. Everyone at this level doubles as a producer.   At the same pay grade, but on their own branch are the Senior Technicians. They maintain the more delicate and complicated equipment of the station, keeping the radio running. Work for the Senior Techs is never ending. Antennas get replaced, satellite dishes get repositioned, and how are there so many wires that get cut and need replacing?   KNTC's top of the organization is the station manager. The station manager cuts each deal with advertisers, approves and vetoes shows, and keeps the chaos in check when things go awry.

Culture

Work in the KNTC studio is generally described as "high energy, laid back". Despite the apparent contrast, it describes their public vs in-house attitude. In any public facing function, employees bring the energy, fitting with the rock and roll face of the station. Within the station, they can relax: it's a small town, what could call for any real kind of urgency? During the day, high energy and laid back makes the station a good gig for all. The night DJs don't quite follow that same attitude. Instead, the night's culture is focused on calm and soothing. This is not to be mistaken for laid back, but is taken as a rather serious matter.

Public Agenda

KNTC seeks to bring people the latest local news, top-tier entertainment, and the greatest classic rock. Actual news is often sparse in Red Oak Bluffs, giving way to more time for music.
