Glastol
The Glastol Region is an archipelago in the Southern Seas of Uontari, home to kingdoms such as Celeste and Galahan. The main landmass is divided in half by a huge central desert that is said to take days to cross by train, weeks by foot. Western Glastol is known for its vast forests and greenery while Eastern Glastol is known for its diversity.
Western Glastol is home to several kingdoms and small tribes, with the Celeste Kingdom being the leading power there. Celeste takes up the entirety of the Northern main mass. To its south lies Galahan, a Kingdom that has faced hardship in recent years. Aside from these two kingdoms, most other civilizations in the area are of their own with no distinct rulers or alliances.
The West is occupied primarily by grasslands, farmlands, and forests. The only standout features lie to the Southern Area within the Kingdom of Galahan. There are also dozens if not hundreds of smaller islands surrounding the main bodies which form a ring.
Western Glastol has been populated for the last five to six hundred years. The first two and a half centuries were settlers settling the land mostly with no real buildup. A few towns sprawled out, the usual hunting and logging and trading. Come the discovery of the Flax Mountain Range and the various rare ores and minerals within, the West boomed. Primarily this applied to the peninsula.
The mountains were flooded with settlers and with the ability to trade came a growing interest in the region. Port towns along the coastal reaches, settlers spreading out to take farm lands, hunters moving to hunt prey, knights fighting off monsters, bandits moving to safety. Four hundred or so years ago the boom of the Western Region kicked off and over time kingdoms began to pop up. Of those kingdoms the power houses were Arlia, Yieaxfird, and Yastoria.
Arlia formed in response to the need for political protection and the need to raise a defense force in the mountains. The kingdom occupied most of the peninsula and some of the mainland to the east and the islands to the south.
Yiexfird formed to the south taking up multiple islands, primarily the larger ones. Some of the mainland was occupied as far as the forest overhanging peninsula and some desert.
Yastoria occupied much of the mainland and desert.
While many groups of settlers came and went with many a governing power popping up, the trio of kingdoms held power for much of their first few centuries of existence. They remained stable until around a hundred and ninety years prior to Elise's birth, with Arlia being the first to fold. When the value of the Flax Mountain's ores dropped due to surplus a considerable strain would be placed on the Darlzford Mining Company. This company was the partner and co-founder of the Arlia Kingdom.
The company, which held mining operations all across Uontari and other realms, faced bankruptcy within only a few years of the crash and was forced to withdraw. With the primary source of income falling apart the Kingdom too would begin to collapse with many settlers leaving the peninsula. While some would remain, many left to other parts of Uontari and other realms. The remaining fraction would go to join both Yieaxfird and Yastoria.
With the collapse of Arlia came economic strain on both Yiexfird and Yastoria. While both were not in technical alignment with Arlia, both had relied upon the transit and trade of goods from their western neighbor by use of their port towns and treaties. The transfer of goods, the need for sailors to dock and resupply in both kingdoms. Yieaxfird would be the next to crumble under the strain as their parent country chose to withdraw from Western Glastol.
This move would leave the Yieaxfird people to fend for themselves, and while for two decades they would sustain themselves they soon broke apart. This would leave Yastoria as the sole power in the region for the time being until around a hundred and fifty-years ago. As both Arlia and Yieaxfird were fading into obscurity the massive Yastoria found itself splitting just the same as Yieaxfird. Unlike the latter though, Yastoria did not belong to a parent county- instead what would go on to break them was the opportunity to expand.
Yastoria, having the most wealth, moved to purchase lands from Yieaxfird's parent government. They would do this for Arlia just the same, acquiring many of the lands to their west and south. This was done at the time as an effort to protect their own interests on the mainland and to unite Western Glastol under a singular influence. The latter belief stood in the hopes of stopping the collapse of Western Glastol.
This would last for nearly fifteen years before Yastoria itself began to implode. Having expanded too fast to try and protect their interests they financially overstepped. This backed by political disagreement within their senate soon led to the division of Yastoria. Around a hundred and twenty years ago with its breakup came the Kingdom of Celeste which took over much of the mainland. Little more than a decade later the Kingdom of Galahan came into existence on the main island of the former Yieaxfird.
For the next few decades nothing would change. Celeste would grow stable and gain power while Galahan would anchor itself to the largest southern island and begin to expand itself. Fifty years ago an incident would occur, the arrival of the Demon Lord Bakura Garou, the Soul Eater. His forces attempted to conquer the whole of Western Glastol and for a year a siege was laid.
During this time it is said that several supernatural clans would also step up to aid the two kingdoms. The war would last for a year and end with a significant battle in the mountains of Galahan where the Demon Lord was sealed by the joint efforts of the clans, the Celeste Kingdom, and Galahan. The consequence of this would be the freeze that would grab hold of the mountains and rob them of their greenery.
Since the war both kingdoms have shrunk and lost power. For the next few decades, again, there would be little change. In the last decade this freezing effect from the mountains has seemingly spread across Galahan.
