Silaquiel Rath

Pronunciation: sil-LACK-kwee-el RATH

Map Index: D-5

Location: East central Aorlan

Geography: Located deep within the old forest, about 40 miles west of Venn,  lies the enchanted faerie mound of Silaquiel Rath. (In common tongue: The Great Mound of Poetry and Song.) This round, grass-covered earthen mound stands almost 30 feet tall with a single doorway at its base. A heavy wooden door with silvery magical faerie runes blocks entry to the interior. Atop the mound grows small hawthorn trees from which colorful ribbons and golden ornaments hang from the branches. Enormous old growth Valorn trees surround the mound. The faeries of Silaquiel Rath, as members of the Seelie Court, serve as protectors of the large area of old, forested lands that lie adjacent to the great forests of Linde Lothtaur and Tauramarth.

Primary Population: A diverse collection of Fae
Secondary Population: Valtauri Elf
Minor Population: None

Climate: The climate within Silaquiel Rath is temperate, with cold winters and occasional heavy snowfalls, transforming into a vibrant spring and, at times, warm summers accompanied by sporadic heat waves. Abundant precipitation throughout the year sustains the forest's lush vegetation, creating a vibrant and thriving ecosystem.

Wildlife: Filled with flowers that grow nowhere else, this home of the faeries provides refuge to many creatures, especially those in harmony with the Seelie Court. Hidden away in a very old patch of forest, Silaquiel Rath is an area of unmatched beauty with thick beds of bright green mosses and delicate wildflowers covering the ground. The vibrant ecosystem is home to diverse wildlife, adding to the realm's enchantment. Treants, sentient tree-like entities, serve as guardians, preserving the forest's equilibrium and protecting Silaquiel Rath from harm. Their ancient wisdom and unwavering loyalty fortify the land against external threats.

Humanoids: The permanent inhabitants of the forest around Silaquiel Rast range from the faeries aligned with the Summer Court to the Valtauri  elves who live in isolated enclaves in the branches of Valorn trees. The Valtauri  elves strive to maintain good diplomatic relations with the Seelie Court. However, not all the humanoids which enter the realm of the faeries are peaceful and well intentioned.

The humans of Venn create constant problems by cutting large amounts of timber in the eastern part of the forest. With little regard for the consequences of their actions, the humans of Venn further provoke the faeries by th indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in the border area.

Faeries associated with the Unseelie Court also present some difficulties as they show little regard for the customs of the Seelie Court. While only a few of them permanently live this far south, they often journey into the forest for short excursions from their home in the dark forest of Tauramarth.

Monsters: Due to the vigilant watchfulness of the faeries and the treants, this area contains few monsters.

History: During the Great Cataclysm, Silaquiel Rast was far enough from the epicenter to emerge relatively unscathed. While tremors were felt, the core of the forest, protected by ancient magical enchantments, remained steadfast, safeguarding the trees, faeries, and elves that grace the area.

Today: The old forest, full of magnificent old growth trees lies in increasing peril. The aggressive expansion of logging camps followed by an influx of settlers from Venn provides a dire threat to the whole eastern half of the forest. The indiscriminate wholesale cutting of the forest combined with the decimation of wildlife permanently change the land in ways that deeply offend and wound the faerie who live there.
