Frosjord, The Frost Lands
Pronunciation: FROSS-yord
Map Index: A-4, A-5, A-6, B-4, B-5, B-6
Location: The far northeastern coastline of Aorlan
Geography: In the far reaches of the north lies the land of Frosjord, a frozen realm characterized by permafrost and ice. The landscape is desolate, devoid of green plants, with only occasional arctic lichen clinging to bare rocks. The sun is low in the sky bringing the land little heat from its bright rays.
The land is not without its dangers, as monstrous ice worms and other horrors lurk beneath the surface, digging tunnels in the snow, waiting to ensnare unsuspecting victims.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: Draorn
Minor Population: None
Climate: The climate in Frosjord is frigid, with temperatures remaining below freezing for almost the entire year. The perpetual cold results in frequent light snowfall. The great winter storms that sweep through the land are legendary, bringing blizzards and whiteouts that challenge even the heartiest of creatures. The storms can last for days with tremendous howling winds that make it nearly impossible to stand up or move.
Wildlife: Animals that manage to survive in this harsh environment have adapted to the extreme cold. Species like the Arctic fox, polar bear, snow hare, and snowy owl are well-equipped to withstand the biting chill.
Humanoids: The only year-round humanoid inhabitants of Frosjord are the barbaric Draorns. The Draorns have lived in this unforgiving terrain for generations, relying on their resilience and resourcefulness to survive. These hardy beings boast warm thick coats of white fur that provide insulation against the constant biting cold. They are well adapted to live in this extreme climate and construct their dwellings from compacted snow or in large intricate tunnels that they have carved into the ice. They live in small tribes and possess only stone age technology. They possess no arcane magic and limited divine magic.
Monsters: Many cold loving creatures call Frosjord home. Frost Giants, Winter Wargs, Wooly Mammoths, and various types of Frost Worms, are a few examples of creatures that live here year round. Rumors tell tales of white dragons living in the far north of this land but adventurers who set out to find them seem to never return.
History: Throughout its history, Frosjord has remained a frozen icy land of isolation and hardship. The Great Cataclysm, which brought about a great warming in the northern part of the world, impacted Frosjord by warming much of its southern territory and transforming it into to what is now the wind swept, grassy tundra of Grunevor. The old northern part of Frosjord remained relatively unaffected, with winter maintaining its cold icy grip year round.
Today: Despite its formidable challenges, Frosjord is a land of stunning beauty. The icy plains stretch far and wide, dotted with majestic ice formations and breathtaking glaciers. The shimmering auroras dance across the sky, adding an otherworldly touch to this frozen realm. For those who dare to venture into its unforgiving embrace, Frosjord offers an experience like no other, a harsh, yet enchanting world that holds both danger and wonder in equal measure.
