Fenrir
The Age of the Wolf The Donums of old have faded, and the beasts of the night are closing in, sensing weakness in their prey. Men now huddle in their settlements, fortifying themselves with numbers and walls. But not the Fenrir. Rather than cower, they became the beasts themselves, but more savage, more ruthless, more monstrous than ever before.
Harmony and Savagery
Almost all the Fenrir can be found in one of the three great clans. Those unskilled in combat move slowly through their dense jungle home. They spend their days gathering no more than is necessary for survival, leaving be anything they do not require. They strive not to make a permanent mark on the land, so that when they eventually return, resources will be just as bountiful. This is painfully contrasted with those who hunt. Packs of Donum Bellua surge through the trees, murdering everything in their path, consuming their fill before bringing the scraps back to their clan. The wilder bloodlines of Fenrir have long forgotten how to activate Life Ducts, and have made no attempts to do so for generations. Instead, they drink solely from the blood of their hunts. These bloodlines view water as an unfinished substance, they believe all water is destined to be refined into blood, and that blood is the only liquid which can truly sate thirst. They view the water drinking bloodlines of Fenrir as weak and simple, having forgotten their traditions.Worthiness of Blood
Fen are different from the other peoples of the world: rather than one in three children born with a Donum, only one in five Fen are born powerless. The Fen attribute this to the superiority of their bloodlines, along with the careful nurturing of the lineage of their strongest. In Fenrir, whenever a male Chaneller proves himself or accomplishes a notable feat, he is allowed to pick a wife from among the women of the Clan. The stronger the Chaneller, the more feats he accomplishes, the more wives the Clan Leader allows him to select. Until then, the Clan leader is considered to own rights to mate with any woman in the tribe. Where this is considered barbaric and unjust by most others of Yominokuni, Fen see it as necessary to cull the weak bloodlines and proliferate the strongest ones. This however, leads to large numbers of wifeless Rathi men, the Unwurdig. The Unwurdig’s lot in life is ravenously pursuing any battle, any challenge, they possibly can, in the hopes that they will be noticed and be awarded a wife.Structure
In the four hundred
years since its founding, Fenrir has built four great cities
within the jungle and the Titan Pines. And in
Piudans Wulpus, the capitol city, an ancient
Kingwulf still sits upon his throne of bones.
Underneath Kingwulf are the three Dukes of
Fenrir, each controlling a region and leading
one of the Ravenous Packs.
Harjis Wulfs
The Duke of Wolves is Vandilwulf, Kinwulf’s most trusted Duke. Vandilwulf controls all the territory of the center of the Empire, including the cities of Mikis Waila and Piudans Wulpus. Despite ruling over the capitol, Kingwulf’s word supersedes Vandalwulf’s on anything. Under Vandilwulf’s rule, central Fenrir prospers. Well-maintained roads cut through orderly farmland. Hunting packs bring their hauls back to their villages. Soldier packs patrol the surrounding jungle, eliminating any creatures that could be a threat to their homes. The people grow strong and live long. The Fenrir feel great pride for what this place has become, knowing little of the bloody conflicts on the borders. And those who do know of the battles are confused by them. Why would the savages resist the culture and refinement Fenrir brings?Harjis Baira
Generations after seizing territory from Cumeria, new transformations began to be more frequent, not just aberrations like those of Donum Portentum. Kingwulf declared the two most common of the new powers to be part of his empire. The first of those is Donum Arkouda, or Gift of the Bear. The Duke of Bears is Gaathabaira. She rules over the north of the empire, overseeing all the lands that were once Cumerian. She and the ferocious Bear Pack fight tenaciously to beat back the creatures of the woods as well as the frequent Cumerian incursions. Life in the north is dismal, gritty, and uncertain. Only the most resolute of Fenrir choose to live in the Titan Pines, but the possible bounty is great. Many live in the north simply because they want to get rich on Adamantine. And it is The Bear Pack’s duty to protect these people as well as maintaining the border that is so hard fought for.Awepi Amslo
The second new transformation Kingwulf declared part of the empire is those of Donum Koraki, or Gift of the Crow. The Duke of Ravens is Ansisamslo. He rules over the southwest of the empire, leading the effort to expand into Kipos. The Raven Flock and Eagle Militia have been mortal enemies for the last two hundred years, the Fenrir and Kiposese armies clashing in a constant struggle for the border. Ansisamslo rules from the city Gahraineins, but he does not care for a throne. In fact he does not care to be recognized at all. His orders are issued through a network of captains, but other than them, no one knows what he looks like. It is said that in battle, he dresses in the exact same uniform as one of the common soldiers, so that the enemy commanders can’t know when to expect his blade at their throat.History
During the age of the New Gods, what is now
Fenrir used to be the Kingdom of Rath, lead
by Kingwulf. In the power vacuum left by
the Gods’ departure, Rath militarized and
launched a bloody invasion into Anidine
controlled Cumeria. This invasion was on
a scale that had not been seen since Malek
Ghodbane’s legendary campaign centuries
before. Cumeria, fractured and divided by their
secession war with Anidine, didn’t stand a
chance.
During this time, the Rathi of Donum
Portentum, or The Gift of the Monster, banded
together and took some territory of their own in
the chaos of those years.
After the dust had settled and borders had
been established, Kingwulf declared Rath to
now be the Fenrir Empire.
Demography and Population
Monsters Among Beasts
There is an anomaly, a blight in the Rathi bloodline, or so they consider it. Four in five children are born with a Donum, but one in twenty of those children do not receive Donum Bellua, instead they inherit Donum Portentum. Instead of the ability to shapeshift into a recognizable beast, Chanellers of Donum Portentum can spawn tentacles, wings, extra eyes, mandibles, an unnatural mixture of traits from any creature. The Rathi abhor this Donum, to them it is dirty, unholy even. Rathi children develop their Donums very early, around the age of two. If a mother discovers her child is Donum Portentum, she will often abandon the child in the jungle to die. Deep in the jungle, far past where most Fenrir are willing to go, there is a second clan. Clan Verlassene, a tribe of the outcasts from the three great clans. They do their best to save abandoned children and those to be killed for their possession of Donum Portentum, but their numbers are never large. They take these unfortunate few across the border to Bwarhei, but then return to Fenrir to continue their work. They live in exile, only venturing close to Fenrir settlements to find abandoned children. With Bared Teeth
