Pain-a? See-ya! Spot

"I fail to understand why you are so infatuated with this mortal drink. It does not restore your immortal form and seems entirely too sweet to be palatable."

"I like that it makes everything happy! It goes PSSHH-POP! And then it's all fizzy and it's yummy and all the heroes you tell me about like them!"

"Inadeq-"

"This one tastes like blackberries!"

"Blackberries? […] That… is actually quite good… Is there a strawberry one?"
Pain-a? See-ya! is a delicious, carbonated, flavored beverage with restorative properties originally produced in Laulari and currently distributed all over the realm and some beyond. It is based on the Old Realm elixir “Panacea,” a relatively common (if expensive) cure-all at the time of the cataclysm. Since the sealing of this world, true Panacea is in short supply, opening the market for much more available and affordable alternatives. In addition to its regular hydrating and curative properties, it is aggressively marketed for a number of purposes such as a cleaning solution, baking ingredient, and even as a fuel additive in some regions. None is as aggressive a salesman as Borden Mayhew, who can be heard preaching Pain-a? See-ya!’s praises to everyone who tunes in to his radio station in Yatamon.

Summary

This radio spot was created to attempt to target alternative markets for Pain-a? See-ya! instead of the usual market of adventurers, soldiers, and other combat oriented roles. It describes various and increasingly absurd uses for the curative, then ends by rapidly disassociating the advertisement from the broadcast station, but does not attempt to refute any of the claims of the ad. However, the myth is filled with enough facts that grant credibility to some of the more outlandish claims.

Spread

Given the limited range of broadcasts, Borden and his wild claims have not spread far - they are restricted to Yatamon and its supporting lands. However, his claims have spread to encompass the world at large, as travelers learn new things about Pain-a? See-ya! then share them with others and the claims grow and change as stories are told by word of mouth. Some regions of the world consume Pain-a? See-ya! as a preventative medicine, and others drink as part of ceremonies honoring gods, believing it to be divine and not manufactured.

Variations & Mutation

Other figures on the mainland have attempted to replicate Borden’s unique way of advertising Pain-a? See-ya! but do not have as widespread an audience nor the natural charisma and impact on their listeners. This has not stopped variations from developing, including Kragen the Yeller who claims it can steal power directly from the gods; Lilian Dew - Extraordinaire, who claims it can reverse aging; and popular in-jokes among adolescents claiming that Pain-a? See-ya! will cause inebriation if consumed rapidly or in a non-standard way. It cannot be understated that the prohibitively expensive beverage and that many of the claims of extraneous effects are unverified or may even be local variants of the drink.

Cultural Reception

The ad is a hit, and is quite popular with all demographics the first few times it is listened to. Borden’s energy is infectious and many who hear the ad feel compelled to repeat it or share the information with their loved ones, and many are more likely to purchase Pain-a? See-ya! as they can afford it. However, prolonged or repeated exposure to the ad sours opinions greatly, to the point that people actively avoid Pain-a? See-ya! to spite Borden and the manufacturers of the drink.
