The Rending

The Rending is an era-changing disaster that occurred at the end of the The Orb Wars. The magic contained within the Ley Orb became unstable after many years of misuse. There are no first-hand accounts of the events preceding the rending but many believe the Highmage of Ifend attempted to use its power to kill all those who opposed her. This resulted in an explosion of cosmic proportions. Numerous civilizations were immediately erased from history and even more were damaged beyond recognition. Only four cities were spared this terrible fate. The city of Bhurnfaldur was sunk into a mountain by Melakka, Crankwall was surrounded by flames thanks to Fornax. Lama Taesi was launched into the air by Vayu-Vata and finally the underwater city of Vaponoch was somehow saved by Boann, its location lost to time. This event ended the Era of Blood and Ash and brought about the Age of Renaissance.
