Bhurnfaldur

Founded in the day of early Eldamar by a small group of dwarven miners who wandered into the Thuun Mountains looking for treasure. They found more than treasure than they could possibly need when they stumbled upon the Iron Star , a gem of unmatched quality and size.
The city now stands as a feat of dwarven engineering. The top of the mountain was expertly removed revealing the Ironstar to the sunlight. The gem now hangs above the tiered city suspended by carved earthen chains. Originally the city occupied only the top of the mountain. During The Rending, Melakka drove the city deep into the mountain to protect it from the calamity that followed. The city is now separated into several tiers supporting the life of the people who live there. Each level of the city has its own function together creating the capital of craftsmanship in this portion of the world.
The tiers from the top down are Stone Bridge, Hammer's Forge, Bismuth Bazaar, Bedrock, and finally Copper Cavern. See below for further description. In addition to these tiers is the airship dock known as the Mountain's Maw, located at the top of the mountain high above the Ironstar. This simple dock allows trade with other cities and is mainly used for high priority items as well as diplomatic missions.
The tiers as built along the side of the hollowed out mountain with some of the more upscale businesses and home being carved into the mountain themselves. When the sun hits the Ironstar the energy is being directed to power the lights, forges, and other necessities. Old school flames are used after dark but the Ironstar provides a near daylight to the lower tiers.
  • Stone Bridge is the tier where many of the nobles reside. Access to this tier is heavily restricted allowing only those who live here or have a special invitation from one of the nobles. The homes here are beautifully crafted from the surrounding stone featuring large stained glass windows and grand carved archways. The Steelbootss presence is here is very heavy with guards at all entrances and patrols wander the streets at regular intervals. Stone Bridge is also home to Fortress of the Forge, the central palace of the city. King Daurvos Frostbeard and Queen Myyrin Frostbeard (formerly Bloodfury) rule the city from the Fortress of the Forge.
  • Hammer's Forge is a residential tier that houses many of the temples in Bhurnfaldur. This tier is directly below Stone Bridge. Steelboots are present heavily here but access is not restricted, anyone can come and worship as they see fit. Some of the more upper class citizens live in fine houses here as well. The Universities are located on Hammer's Forge
  • Bismuth Bazaar is the merchant tier of the city where many of the cities shops and artisans set up shop. Access to this tier is allowed to all; however there is a very high Steelboot presence here, to deter shoplifters and the like. Many of the merchant class also reside here living above or within their shops. This tier is also houses most of the cities taverns and inn creating a diverse and colorful population at any given time.
  • Bedrock is the mining tier. Bedrock lies just above Copper Cavern and contains all of the mines for the city. This is another heavily protected tier due to the raw materials pulled from the mines here. Mines can either be controlled by the crown or by privately owned businesses. Access to this tier is granted to anyone with employment papers.
  • Copper Cavern is not a cavern per se but it is the lowest of all the tiers. This tier is mostly residential with a few taverns for the locals. The Steelboots don't seem to bother themselves with patrolling this tier as heavily as the other tiers which leads to a heavy underworld presence. This tier's most notable feature is the Cobalt Run, a river of wastewater and sewage from the upper tiers running somewhere deep within the mountain and out of sight. Proximity to the Cobalt Run leads to a variety of health problems so only the poorest and least fortunate live near the river. The Cooper Caverns is also where the prison is located, the Obsidian Dungeon
