Pura
REDEMPTIVE JOURNEY:
Pura is spared from the Felin. She is considered a goddess of the Shrine of Scarlet. She is raised, untouched by the hands of men. She is surrounded by beauty and she is raised only by the hands of the priestesses of the Scarlet Flower. Men and women bring offerings of food, money and clothing and items of value in her name and pay a high price to stand in front of her and gaze on her beauty, though they cannot touch her. She is the beauty that sustains them and she is the center of their worship. The goddesses of the temple of the Scarlet Flower have red shoes that they wear and in the heel of the shoe is a poisonous dart that will be activated if they ever remove them. The shoes chain them to the throne of the goddess in the temple and in the chariot that takes them to and from the house of the women. When Pura is abducted from the Scarlet Temple by the Wolf Lord, the poison is released into her bloodstream. When Kilvan finds her, she is already experiencing the fever and the effects of the poison. Pura's journey with Kilvan begins with them not understanding each other at all as they do not have a common language. They are in the north in extreme cold and snow and they are both abandoned in a tent. Kilvan has been left by his fellow raiders who have come together from the Battle School to get an item that the Wolf Lord has taken. Kilvan is also addicted to the hut herb and is in extreme withdrawal also while he tries to save Pura from her own fever. They have an extremely difficult path also as they try to get out of the cold. Pura is leading and is also on the way to the Valley of Alpha Wolf. Her family has some background with the Reindeer Peoples who help them along the way. Pura wants to get to Alpha Wolf as she hopes that her brother is still there. Her family had their traumatic experiences with the Felin and with Scarlett and she knows about the belly of the beast. The connection with Paya helps her as she wants to know what it would be like to be hidden away from the eyes of others, what it would be like to not know so much about the systems. As Pura teaches Paya about the way things are in Scarlet, they both work hard to figure out ways to help the children who are abandoned to the Felin. Kilvan her husband has only known raiding and pillaging, fighting and traveling. He has deep understanding of the ways of Rouge and also much about the lands where he has raided. Kilvan has connections with questionable people that flow between the kingdoms as well. Pura sees in him , someone who will take action to change the wicked systems, to break the chains that enslave so many. She also is curious about how it must have felt to be so free, as he was, to travel to many places and to end things and have the ability to do it. Kilvan helps her find ways that she can strike back at the institutions and people who enslaved her.
