Queen Zakina Mariellis Kociak (a.k.a. Kina, Rumbles, Kiki, Queena)
A catfolk born and raised in the countryside of Florence. She took up adventuring to quell the unavoidable wanderlust in her soul, but was pulled into a war between two nations. It was there that she met new friends, reunited with her family, and turned her life around for the better. Zakina is now a proud mother and wife, a famed author, the queen of
The Isles of Basilla, and helped rewrite reality.
The main symbol of Kina is a stained glass butterfly. Other divine symbols include heart-shaped rubies, skeleton keys, peacock-feathered quills, emeralds, jasmine flowers, and cat-shaped trinkets.
Physical Description
Zakina isn't physically strong, but she is incredibly dexterous. As a result of being double-jointed, she can contort her body effortlessly. She's pear-shaped with a slender upper body and a thicker, lightly toned lower body. Kina is athletic, in peak physical health, and rarely falls ill.
Her face is short and heart-shaped, and dotted with freckles. She has big, bright eyes and a hooked nose. Her lips are plump and heart-shaped as well, and usually painted in some shade of purple or magenta. One of her most identifying features is her large, cat-like ears that appear to be too big for her head. Her tail is often the center of people's attention, as well as her short stature.
Kina's body is decorated with several markings, and she has a soft patch of fur on her chest. Her left ear is pierced twice. She has a rune of protection tattooed on the back of her neck and has a matching tattoo with Rikius of maple leaves and lilac flowers on her right wrist. Kina's body temperature is much warmer than most mortals because catfolk naturally have higher body temperatures.
She likes to be physically close to people, sidling up beside friends and family or following closely behind them. When she's interested in what someone's saying, she gives them her full attention by turning her body to face them, or she leans closer. Kina's very animated and emotive, so it's hard for her to hide what she's feeling. Fashion-wise, she dresses in feminine and fun clothes. She prefers dresses and skirts, usually paired with leggings or thigh-high socks underneath. She doesn't shy away from bold patterns and bright colors, topping every outfit off with delicate jewelry.
Kina takes personal hygiene very seriously. She bathes every other day and moisturizes her skin in the morning and at night. She uses luxury products to ensure that her mane and tail are healthy and tangle-free. Perfume is a must, and she especially enjoys sweet scents, like vanilla, with floral undertones.
Zakina is capable of turning invisible at will and can teleport through shadows that are no more than 100 ft apart. With her shadow jump, she can also entangle enemies where she starts and when the teleport ends. She can pin enemies in place by stepping into their shadow, granting her or Iolond the ability to possess them. Kina can shroud herself in shadows and hide anywhere, even in broad daylight. She can even attack from afar by reaching through the shadows to strike her opponents.
She never leaves tracks behind and is under the constant effects of nondetection. Her aura is permanently hidden due to a trade she made in the Library of Forbidden Knowledge. Hazardous and difficult terrain don't slow her down. She can walk on water and walls so long as she's able to stop on solid land. Because of her divine abilities, she's able to transfer magical effects onto herself by striking an opponent. With this power, she can also learn their weaknesses, even if it's a divine flaw.
After developing psionics, Kina can read the minds of sapient creatures or send a wave of psychic energy at them. Her wish for an extended lifespan was granted by Sabella after the fall of Velevana. She gained a permanent Tongues effect from Pandemonius, as well as Planar Adaptation to the Plane of Time. During the Trials of Xibalba, she and her husband gained a telepathic bond.
Storm's Blessing: An ornate set of claw caps made out of heavily enchanted adamantine and inlaid with gemstones. They were crafted by Lucky Kociak and Elathera Clearwater. The caps allow her to deal precision damage to anything, including creatures that are normally immune to that type of damage.
The Mask of Lochoria: Once housed in the village of Ankasi. Kina took it after the party had dreams of the goddess Lochoria's impending death. The mask allows the wearer to slip into the In-Between, making them nondetectable by any means, including magical and supernatural abilities. Anyone wearing the mask is unable to physically interact with the world. The mask was later destroyed in the Far Realms.
The Flourished Feather: Nothing of great importance, but something that Kina treasures deeply. When writing with the quill, everything appears to be written in a beautiful, cursive font.
Tenshi: A cat-shaped psicrystal that Kina was gifted during the Trials of Xibalba. She later had it animated and enchanted for personal purposes. Tenshi is used for communication between Kina and her family, who have smaller psicrystals that are connected to Tenshi.
Mental characteristics
Zakina was the firstborn of former gangsters, Kraughton and Asri. Krag began to shy away from the violent lifestyle of the Black Fang, but Asri's lust for blood persisted. She saw Krag's mercy as weakness and took that anger out on her child. Kina's childhood was fraught with physical and emotional abuse. Asri wanted an heir to her madness, but Kina was resilient and refused to accept her twisted beliefs. When Asri forced her to take the life of a child, Kina fought against her, tooth and claw. She took off with the child, turning her over to a temple.
For saving the child, Asri dragged Kina out into the woods, where she tortured her and left her for dead. Even as infection began to settle in her wounds, Kina's compassion never faltered. All she could think about was her baby sisters, who were without protection from their demented mother. In that moment, Kina promised herself that she would never become her mother, no matter what happened. Because of Asri's neglect, she took on a maternal role for her sisters.
On her sixteenth birthday, Asri gifted Kina a magical, heirloom dagger. The dagger was crafted by their ancestor, Lucky, many centuries ago. Then, without a word, Asri disappeared during the night. Kina was haunted by the same restless spirit that claimed her mother. It was a curse marking the Kociak bloodline, plaguing them with wanderlust. For several years, she joined her cousin and friends on the road. They were the Belladonnas, a band of mercenaries that didn't rely on violence to get by. It was through them that Kina met a tengu named Valerie.
The two clicked instantly, but as quickly as things fell into place, they soured. Their toxic relationship continued for the entirety of Kina's time with the Belladonnas. On the night of Catrina's engagement to her longtime girlfriend, she went with Kina to their favorite spot in the countryside. They were drinking moonshine and reminiscing about fond childhood memories until they both passed out drunk. Kina awoke to Catrina's agonized screams, and she was the only one to witness her cousin's death. Because of the mysterious circumstances, some of her family believed Kina was responsible.
Valerie announced her pregnancy shortly after, giving Kina another reason to live. They rekindled their romance, but it wasn't long before things devolved into pointless bickering. They developed a co-dependency, unable to exist without each other, but unable to get along. Kina turned to drugs to cope with her pain, and Valerie lied and said she had a miscarriage to leave her vulnerable and easier to control. Devastated, Kina saw no reason to stay within Florence. When her father didn't allow her to come home due to her rampant drug use, Kina looked to Catrina's fiancée, who also turned her back on her.
In a short amount of time, Kina lost everything. She no longer had the will to live. All she wanted to do was disappear. With nothing left to lose, Kina embraced her wanderlust and set out to find the "city of nobodies" from an old catfolk tale. It was a city of people who didn't know her and couldn't judge her. She hoped it was the fresh start she needed. It was in Nevarre that she befriended an archdruid despite the other residents' protests. Grendishi spent the next year nursing Kina back to health. It was the familial connection Kina had been longing for, a source of mutual love and respect.
Unable to live in the village due to its xenophobic views, Kina reluctantly returned to Florence. Still isolated from her family, it wasn't long before she relapsed. After all of Grendishi's love and care, Kina shamefully fell back into old habits. She never expected her next high to be explosive. While buying drugs one afternoon, Kina witnessed a terrorist attack during a city parade. In all of the chaos, she met people who would go on to become her closest friends, namely Industria Cellini and Elathera Clearwater.
They worked together to apprehend the terrorists and uncovered plans for future attacks that targeted Florence. The three of them were recruited into the military and moved up the ranks quickly. Keeping her nation and its civilians safe renewed Kina's sense of purpose and gave her the willpower to kick her vices for good. During this time, she would meet her eventual husband, Rikius Falenmir. He was a commander in the enemy nation's military. His calm and collected demeanor gave him an air of mystery, which interested Kina.
After he was tortured by both nations and used as a tool for a political assassination, he was sentenced to life in prison. He was a puppet in someone else's war; Kina couldn't stand to see another life ruined by others' cruelty. She paid off his bounty, and he was ordered to work with her and her friends until the war was won. The two bonded over their painful histories, finding comfort in each other that they couldn't find elsewhere. Kina saw the war through until its official end when both nations signed a treaty.
She had been reunited with her family for months now and used the gold she earned to help keep her family afloat and allow them all to chase their dreams. Elathera and Industria resurrected her cousin, mending years of heartache to stitch the family back together. With Catrina's return, she was able to reunite with the child she thought she lost long ago. She fell into motherhood naturally, and she was dedicated to ensuring that her child had the childhood she never had. One full of laughter, creativity, and most importantly, love.
One of the friends she made during the war had fled into the Underdark to face the consequences of a deal he had made beforehand. He promised his soul to her if she allowed him to experience life on the surface freely. She only gave him a year, and with the war over, Xaren's time was up. Not wanting to lose her friend, Kina followed him into the Underdark to save him from an eternity of damnation.
Deep within a labyrinth full of undead, her ancestor's phylactery was calling to her, just as it did her mother. Kina had no choice but to kill Asri when the two crossed paths shortly before Xaren fled underground. With her mother dead, the broken phylactery called to the next descendant in line, and Kina couldn't resist its pull. Upon touching it, the fragment of her ancestor's soul inside settled within her. She was the living, mortal phylactery of Lucky Kociak. When Kina and her friends needed help to defeat the goddess who claimed Xaren, they reached out to Lucky, who surprisingly showed up.
They were a lich, their own soul marked as irredeemable in a universe that was strictly good or evil. They weren't like typical liches, and that left Kina questioning whether or not the laws of reality were fair. Time and time again, Kina was shown that reality's laws were rigid and unforgiving, which led her to befriend the demon god Pandemonius. He was also tired of the rules and intended to rewrite reality, with or without anyone's help. Kina and her friends joined his cause. They knew of a powerful ally that could help. Exius Clearwater, Elathera's grandfather, who was a powerful mage and a planeswalker.
Because of his immense power, his soul was shattered by the gods and divided among the planes of existence. Kina and her friends adventured through the planes, experiencing highs and lows that would break most mortals. Each plane proved to her that reality, much like the societies that existed within it, only benefited those in power. Together, with Pandemonius, they founded the Society of Free Thinkers, a group dedicated to rewriting reality to be truly fair and unbiased. The Society of Free Thinkers managed to get into the Far Realms, putting them on the path to the forbidden plane of Atmeos.
They fought its guardian, the Midnight Watcher, and earned her respect. She allowed them to step into Atmeos, which triggered wars between cosmic and divine beings everywhere. The celestials sent to put an end to their plan failed to stop them. The Society of Free Thinkers changed reality, putting an end to eternal punishments. They put a safeguard in place to prevent any deity from gaining too much power. It was a being called the Colossus of Life, a divine construct grown from the Tree of Life that could kill gods that stepped out of line.
Zakina now spends her time building a family with her husband. She writes when she can and is a published author, most known for her series "Destiny's Dwelling", which is based upon the adventures she's experienced throughout her life. She's also a key member of a secret society, the Grove of Foxes. Their mission is to preserve artistic works of historical or scientific importance. She's also the proprietor of Chasing Tales, a bookstore and writing workshop in Florence.
Before she traveled the planes, she visited her family's homeland for the first time. Seeing that Basilla was ruled by corruption, she took part in an insurrection to snatch the power away from the cruel royal families. Each truth that she uncovered confirmed that an uprising was necessary. Her bloodline was tainted with not only the blood of others, but of their own as well.
After their fall, she and her husband founded the Basillian Council. To ensure that the period of transitional government didn't go awry, the pair became queen and king of the isles to protect what they worked for. They've ruled Basilla for over a century, though their titles are mainly ceremonial these days. Upon her death, whenever it arrives, she's slated to become the next archangel of the trickster god Iolond. She's become what her mother could never be: a loving guardian and not a demented tyrant.
Bisexual with a preference for women.
Formal schooling was a luxury that Kina never had the chance to experience. Her family couldn't afford it. Her grandmother was her first and most devoted teacher, ensuring that Kina and her sisters learned to read, write, and survive in the wild. Her lessons were often done in the fields or by firelight, blending traditional academics with the wisdom of a farmstead life.
Over time, Kina's education was as unpredictable as her travels. She adapted to most situations quickly, absorbing skills wherever the road took her. She gained extensive knowledge of dungeoneering, engineering, and animal husbandry; trades born from necessity rather than ambition. Her cousin encouraged her curiosity for the natural and the mystical, introducing her to the wonders of the fey and the strange ecosystems connected to them.
Though Kina understands agriculture well from her upbringing, her true interests lie in creation and invention. Her education was never traditional, but it shaped her into a woman of many talents and relentless curiosity.

- Sympathy for the damned. Her relationships with evil beings sometimes put her at odds with her allies. She saw something worth saving in them, and her allies thought she was being naive. In her pursuit of universal fairness, her choices often unleashed chaos that was difficult to manage.
- The death of her mother. Though Asri's cruelty demanded justice, Kina grieves the fact that she was the one who ended her life. She doesn't regret it, but it was a position she never wanted to be in.

Personality Characteristics
Zakina's driven by a relentless need to protect others from the pain she endured. Having survived years of cruelty, addiction, and loss, she strives to ensure that no one under her care ever feels powerless or forgotten. Compassion serves as her anchor, even when the world constantly tests it. She wants to break the cycles of abuse, divine injustice, and moral absolutes. From standing up to Asri to rewriting reality itself, Kina fights any system that demands suffering or blind obedience.
She's also motivated by a quieter need: to belong. Whether as a sister, friend, mother, or leader, Kina constantly seeks the warmth of a found family and fears losing it just as deeply. Her creative pursuits, such as writing and storytelling, are her way of finding meaning in life when everything else feels impermanent. All in all, she intends to leave the world a better place than it was before her existence.

- Disguise & Deception: Her skill in crafting practical disguises rivals that of illusion magic. She often uses this talent for infiltration or performances, but she enjoys dressing up for fun rather than for a profession.
- Observation & Insight: Kina sees and hears what others miss. Her heightened senses and natural empathy make her a master at reading people, sometimes to an unnerving degree.

- Impulsivity: Her lack of impulse control often gets her in trouble. It leads her into danger or conflict before she can think twice.
- Bluntness & Defiance: Her honesty can border on tactlessness, though it's never because of maliciousness. She bristles under authority, a habit that's earned her both admiration and frustration in equal measure.
- Magical Limitations: Despite all of her exposure to the arcane, Kina struggles to grasp the deeper mechanics of magic and relies more on instinct than study.
Beneath her sharp instincts and painful past, Kina has a gentle heart. She finds comfort in small, familiar joys and draws strength from life's quiet moments.
- Likes: Grape juice, cats, knick-knacks, and train rides. She adores gemstones, butterflies, and deer. They're symbols of a fragile, but enduring life. Her sweet tooth is well known, and she can't resist candied fruits or fresh cookies. She loves violets and jasmine, flowers whose scents remind her of peace and home.

Social
- Asianne Kociak (Direct Ancestor)
Kina considers herself spiritual, but doesn't adhere to any religion. The effort needed for it to have a substantial impact on her life is mind-numbing. She'd rather use that time to do the things she enjoys. Even meeting literal gods wasn't enough to convince her to practice any faith. She occasionally gives offerings to some of them, but she considers these deities allies and friends rather than figures of worship.
Kina's an extroverted introvert. She doesn't like crowds or even parties, but she thoroughly enjoys spending time with others. She's endearingly awkward, lacking social graces due to her upbringing in the countryside. She comes across as vulnerable and approachable, but annoying to some. Kina has an infectious sense of optimism, even in the worst of situations. After all, there's time to panic later. She's friendly to most, though her experiences during the war and beyond have made her cautious as she ages.
Kina's had many pets over the course of her life, the most notable ones being Muffin and Sweet Pea. Muffin was a fluffy stray kitten that she took in and trained for scouting purposes. He knows many tricks, is hyperactive, and protective of her and Rikius' children. Even death couldn't stop him. He returned several weeks later, slipping out of the hands of a psychopomp and finding his way home as a spirit.
Sweet Pea is Kina's familiar and a squirrel she unintentionally snatched while traveling through Limbo. Kina's mythic power caused Sweet Pea to develop mild psionic abilities, as well as the power to manipulate shadows. He's intelligent, but unable to speak, leaving him feeling isolated from the family at times. A few years into Kina's reign as the Queen of Basilla, she's gifted a pair of dandy-lion cubs. She names them Alexio and Amatus. Fully grown, they sit on either side of her and Rikius during council meetings or public forums.
Zakina's hobbies reflect both the gentle, mortal side of her and the extraordinary experiences that shaped her life. Writing is her greatest passion. She journals, drafts novels, records histories of her adventures, and pens letters to friends who may never read them. At Chasing Tales, she hosts workshops, teaching others the craft of storytelling. She loves collecting trinkets, gemstones, and curios from her travels. Gardening and herbal craft are calming pursuits that she learned from her grandmother.
She blends her own teas and incense, sometimes inviting Elathera over to experiment with enchantments to enhance their effects. Knitting and embroidery are also hobbies passed down by her grandmother, and they lend themselves well to costume creation. Kina likes to keep her hands busy. As she got older, Kina became interested in philosophical and theological discourse. She often writes essays debating moral law, cosmic balance, and the limits of divine authority. She enjoys charting magical anomalies she encounters, as well as exploring the patterns of stars and celestial bodies.
After the Mask of Lochoria was destroyed in the Far Realms, she began collecting broken artifacts and relics, hoping to restore them. On livelier days, Kina enjoys parkour and wandering rooftops. She practices yoga daily with her husband. When she's with her loved ones, she likes sharing a simple meal, something small that keeps her grounded.
Voice Claim: Ashley Johnson
- Kina has a standard, American accent and her speaking style is as chaotic as she is. Her voice is on the higher side, though she'll play with the pitch dramatically when under stress or trying to emphasize her point. It sometimes comes across as squeaky. She curses like a sailor, her favorite being "fuck", and she has no qualms about swearing in public or dignified places. Anyone who tries to tell her it's trashy or inappropriate will earn an f-bomb exclusively for themselves.
History
Zakina was a strange, obnoxious thorn in Rikius' side at first. Being that she was the only one to show him compassion rather than coldness or tense cordiality after his life was flipped upside down, he started to quietly appreciate her company. Her affections were overwhelming and he pushed them away at first, but after months of casually fooling around, the pair officially became a couple over one too many glasses of wine.
Rikius was surprised at himself for initiating and Kina was utterly convinced he was pulling her leg and would run for the hills any day now. They weren't public with their relationship at first, but it wasn't hard for anyone to figure out after a certain point. They've been through hell and back with one another, always looking out for each other. After a few years and two kids, the pair got married.
They have their spats as all couples do, but at the end of the day, these two would die for each other.
Commonalities & Shared Interests
Rikius is very fond of learning about magic and because of how often he talks about it, Kina has also grown extremely curious about it. Beyond that, they both enjoy each other's company, even when there's nothing but a comfortable silence between them. Wine is another favorite of the couple's, especially when paired with a quiet evening full of gentle touches and sweet nothings. They also enjoy reading and doing yoga together.
Shared Acquaintances
Paxton, who was a lonely doppelganger they met while trudging through the swamps days out from Florence. He's small, kind, and awkward. He will ramble on about anything and everything. He's also a necromancer and was once in a cult devoted to Vecna. Now he spends his time traveling to collect knowledge on all sorts of things, but makes sure to visit the couple often.
