Akagi Class Carrier

Designed just before the beginning of the Second Antoskan War, the Akagi class was originally intended to be a replacement for the Liberator Class Assault Carrier . Rather than building a new, large, and expensive assault carrier, the Imperial Fleet opted for a standardized carrier based loosely on the Remus Class Battlecruiser  design. Relying exclusively on drone fighters, the Akagi could launch four of its twelve squadrons of drones simultaneously, granting it a formidable first strike capability.   Entering service too late for the Second Antoskan War, the Akagi class would see extensive use by both sides during the Second Terran Civil War. Due to their ease of mothballing and reactivation, the Akagi’s were placed in the Mykentian reserve fleet, to be reactivated during the Galatian War and again for the Domian Reformation.   The Akagi class would be extensively refit during the First Enmalex War with the reimplementation of the manned fighter program, where each squadron would include a manned fighter to control the drones with short range laser based communications in the event of jamming.
