Murdistos
The assassin's assassin
They do have two very unique abilities, one is that if they are on The Hunt they are easily forgotten when seen. They seem to have a face that gets lost in the crowd. This only happens when they are actively on 'The Hunt'. Suppose someone attempts to recall seeing such a person. (-4 to Perception). In that case, they will only have vague or even stereotypical descriptions (“You know tall, thin, long hair, pointed ears” or “He was short and fat, had beard maybe waist high, I think), They can immediately recognize one of their own and also can know if another of their kind is also hunting in their area. They will never hunt the same quarry and if by some slim chance two hunters are sent after the same one, the second one to be commissioned will relent to the first. If a Murdisto is commissioned to hunt another one in an attempt to prevent being hunted, the poor soul will only be told “You are prey, and we do not steal from family.”
Commissioning a Murdisto is not a matter to be taken lightly and those foolish enough to ignore the warnings will very quickly discover the error of the decision. These people hunt for the sake of hunting, so attempting to purchase them will not result in their attendance, regardless of amount, shiny baubles, land, power, or prestige. One does not make friends or make a successful bargain by asking how or where a Murdisto can be hired, so one must do this sort of thing very quietly and discreetly. Should the word get out that someone has in fact slipped and made it public that they are looking for one, none will offer their services. The successful bargain is this: If the hunt is deemed worthy of their efforts they will meet with the requester. They will hunt the requested prey (as this is how they see all quarry), they will also tell the requester the price for the hunt is that they themselves will become a hunted prey, to be collected upon at the leisure of the Murdisto. This can have a harrowing effect on the requester but be assured they will collect on the debt. Depending on the tone, the requester and it is said even the mood of the hunter, the requester is given one year's freedom, after that one year the requester is now ‘prey’.
Proof of a successful hunt is determined and agreed upon at the time of commission, and this could range from the prey's head to some other form irrefutable proof. Rumor has it that the rest of the body is actually eaten by the hunter, so as to keep with the tenet of never letting a kill go to waste. This however has never been proven, but at the same time, the bodies of the hunted have never been found. The time frame of the hunt is decided upon by the hunter not the requester and if the requester pushes the issue enough, the hunter will just simple leave, but it will never exceed a full month.
The Murdisto's method of 'catching' their prey is never done from a distance and is always done up close and personal, as this guarantees the prey will know they have been caught and by whom. These hunters will only hunt living beings, they will not hunt any non-living entity such as liches, vampires or other beings that can be affected by clerics. The will not hunt any divine beings but they have been known to hunt clerics of other deities.
In the most unlikely event a Murdisto fails to capture their prey and are killed by the prey the others will know that one of their brethren has failed and will do nothing in retribution, but will consider that the prey was a better hunter. This will also release the requester from the agreement of being hunted by the hunter albeit for obvious reasons.
Legend has it that those Murdisto’s that die of natural causes are turned into Servitor of Zorgifi, solely to do his bidding.
