Gorlod (gɔr' lɔd)

Symbols: Starburst with a balanced scale in the center

Physical Form Appearance: When in physical form, Gorlad appears as a very old man, disheveled, sometimes dirty, with mismatched clothing, and even to the point of having different shoes/boots for each foot. No matter how he may dress, he will be carrying either a very gnarled and twisted cane or a walking staff. Occasionally, it has been said and according to legend, Gorlod appears as a small child. Normally, when viewed not in physical form, if he chooses to make himself visible, it’s in the form of a constantly moving cloud or fog with a single glowing light in the middle but with no visible sources. He is not, in the sense of some of the other deities, corporeal, he is more of a force, an entity with no real form or substance
Personality/Demeanor: Completely at the whim of Gorlod. He could be laughing or crying or both, his means and methods are his own and none truly question his motives or motivations, and it is said that even Aria has been known to leave him wide birth for his machinations. The one lucid thing that seems to be understood by him is that when he is around the other deities and if Aria is present he almost seems to listen attentively and without much interruption, however without the presence of Aria he is more apt to be a child after too many pieces of candy. It said however that it is rare at best that he attends anything with the presence of Aria.       History/Ascension: The first of the deities recognized by Aria, given form and god status.     Divine Powers:
  • Inspire Anarchy
    • Inspire any number from 1 to a nation to completely throw out any law or order and fall into complete anarchy. People and animals have completely unpredictable actions
  • Cause Entropy
    • In the presence of the deity, water can flow uphill, trees can bloom in winter, and mutations can happen with people, plants, and animals. Magic is 100% wild and may or may not work as expected. Laws of nature and physics are completely ignored at the discretion of Gorlod
  • Gorlod’s Law
    • What can go wrong will go wrong at the most inopportune time.
      • Example: An archer launches an arrow the bow breaks and snaps back at the archer who reels from the pain, stepping back into the wizard who is trying to cast a spell this cause an interruption in casting and it fizzles out and knocks the wizard down face first. The archer falls backward on the wizard whose dagger is pointing up off of his hip and goes into the fallen archer causing him to be paralyzed. The weight of the archer falling on the wizard breaks his nose and his front teeth to where he can’t speak without a lisp. This permanently affects his ability to use verbal components in spells.
  • Gorlod’s Tantrum
    • Has the ability to combine all of the other abilities at one time.
  • Gorlod’s Touch
    • Causes instant and irrevocable insanity.
Priests: There are no real priests, in the true sense, that profess themselves as such.     Duties:
  • Priests of other deities and non-priests are expected but not exactly required to help those that have been ‘touched’ by Gorlod to reach the temple/haven of the deity. This is not a hard and dedicated effort but the areas near these temples/havens seem to be fairly devout of this rule.
  • Those that do profess to be actual priests of Gorlod maintain the temples and inhabitants.•

Followers Alignment: CN – those that are truly insane or those that wish to believe that all should be chaos.     Notes & Remarks: There are, however, those that are willing to say that they believe in the power and the randomness of Gorlod. Those that have been touched by Gorlod profess to be the deity himself and at times seem to have either Wizard or Priest-like abilities. Regardless of what spell ability they demonstrate, it will be 100% wild magic. There is a near-global understanding, at least, by those that are followers of the Pandorian pantheon, that those individuals that have been “touched” by Gorlod are to be, at the least, given broad latitude and at best, guided to a Temple of Gorlod, where they can be cared for and kept safe. Even the most dedicated paladin coming upon a touched person will halt his quest (within reason) to ensure that person is guided and presented to one of Gorlod’s temples. There are those that may think that feigning being touched by Gorlod will give them free reign to do or say what they want, but it is all but guaranteed that if they are found not to be truly touched they will either be severely punished for their actions or taken to a temple and be put to work, helping those that truly are touched and the chances are after being there for several years, they themselves will become touched.     Should anyone who is a follower of the pantheon see someone mistreating or abusing those that are touched, at least, they will get a firm, stern and very direct correction of their ways, and in some cases there are those that see abusing the touched, personal and will take a swift and more than likely painful retribution upon the offender. It is unknown if Gorlod actually takes an interest in those that he has touched or even cares about the well being of these individuals. But the fact that those of the believers of the pantheon gods are willing to take up this mantle, there must be some influence from somewhere.     There is talk of these souls having the ability of perfect prophecy. This is the ability to foretell some event or even multiple events. This is not guaranteed to occur but the fact that it does can cause the idea of having one of these in their court or home. The chance of this actually happening is 3% at any given time. If an individual wishes to become a Guardian of Gorlod’s Childer, they first must petition the head of the Temple of Gorlod. If the petition is accepted, there will be a battery of questions and even magic to determine the honesty of the petitioner. Next, the guardian will need to make a substantial donation to the temple. This will not always be in the form of currency, but will have to be someone of extreme value to the petitioner. This could range from a single gold piece that a family has saved a year or more to obtain through work, an ancient unique family heirloom, to the entire treasury of a ruler and his family. Should the donation being offered be found to have been obtained through unscrupulous means or if it is found that the ‘child’ is abused in some way, the retribution dropped on the individual will be massive in scale but minute in its delivery. The first thing that will happen is that the child will somehow be able to escape their captor and some small event will start a cascade of events that will completely unravel that person’s life. This event could be anything, but it would be completely random in its nature. There may be hope to recover from this, but it will take a monumental effort akin to the birth of an acorn and growing into a mammoth oak. Even a wish will not counter the Law of Gorlod. If the person fails to realize the error they have made, their life will continue to unravel in more interesting ways and eventually lead that person to a level of insanity that is so deep even the Childer of Gorlod may even show pity for them but show them no mercy for their suffering. Most that reach this level end in either disappearance to obscurity or a lonely death. There is a whispered rumor that this is why Daemon Lachrymose’s life has been filled with so much loss and pain that he somehow made this terrible mistake.     The Staff of Gorlod made from an unknown wood and when it is stamped on the ground, an 8d20 bolt of lightning is centered on the staff strikes randomly 8 times all in the same combat round. The direction of the strike is generated by rolling 8d8 centered on the wielder
