Guide to Magic
## Spellcasters
The manipulation of magic is not innate to any being, though some species have more affinity for the craft than others. In addition to training, almost all magical manipulation requires the raw material for spellcasting and an interface with the magical substrates of the universe.
The interface is almost always surgically implanted, connecting to numerous organ systems throughout the body. (Indeed, the implantation of **Red Magic** interfaces is considered particularly gruesome, since it necessitates the reweaving of the entire musculature system.) Once a mage is trained in one school of magic, they can usually speed up the training in another school of magic, though they must still have an interface.
For weaker or simpler exertions of magic, a detached interface (such as a harness or a glove) can be used, though those are usually for very specific applications of magic. Weapons and other devices can be magical interfaces as well.
Each school of magic requires its own raw material (*aetherium* for Blue Magic, *quintessence* for Purple, and *aggluminite* for Red). Most mages have a number of reserves within their body, as part of the interface implantation. These reserves are usually sufficient for most localized effects and only need to be replenished every couple of years. Greater effects require greater reserves.
## Schools and Colors
Magic comes in many colors. Three are common on Earth:
* Blue Magic, the magic of kinetics and force.
* Purple Magic, the magic of illusion and movement.
* Red Magic, the magic of mutation and blood.
