Republic Commandos
Introduction
Republic Commandos were first deployed during the Republic-Flatlander War of 7 BE as The Renn Republic's response to Flatlander raids. Republic Commandos were designed to be able to fight White Riders man-to-man while also having the capabilities to take down War Elephant's. They were successful at both and allowed The Republic to eventually push the Flatlanders back.Equipment
The need to be able to take down the colossal elephant beasts without egregious losses led to the invention of the Wire Launcher. Commandos required the specialized equipment in order to scale elephant riders and take them down from above. Despite the wire launcher being used by commandos in felling War Elephants, it was also useful when maneuvering in fights with White Riders.Tactics
Because of the extremely unordinary capabilities of both the Commandos and their enemies, numerous unorthodox tactics were developed through battle by both sides to increase their chances of victory.White Riders
Republic Commandos' main method of dealing with White Riders was allowing them to attack towns within the battlefront and then use their wire shooters to maneuver on the roofs of the buildings to pick off riders outside of their reach. Although this tactic was relatively effective, should the commandos fail to grasp control of the situation, civilian casualties would grow quickly.War Elephant's
The Commandos' approach to fighting War Elephants was to avoid the danger zone at the front and maneuver to the back of the beast. Next, they would fire their wires into the elephant and procced to scale its hind legs. All that remained afterward is maintaining enough balance to kill the rider and avoiding being crushed when the elephant fell. Despite Commandos being designed to fight War Elephants because of their enormous size and destructive ability, they still had to remain cautious.Wizards
Because of the Commando's inexperience with dealing with Wizards - although the Wizards were the same - and Wizards having unknown and different abilities, they were more often than not outmatched, and would require multiple Commandos to defeat one Wizard. Because of the collapse of the Republic's government, tactics for efficiently dealing with Wizards were never fully developed. The only semi-effective strategy was taking them by surprise or attacking so aggressively and recklessly that the wizards were unable to keep up. Because most Wizards were inexperienced before gaining their magic, Republic Commandos were able to pressure them psychologically and force them into unfavorable situations.Deployment
Because of the relatively short amount of time they were deployed - despite being extensively used at those times - Republic Commandos were only involved in two major conflicts.The Republic-Flatlander War of 7 BE
During the Commandos' first deployment their abilities were still unrefined in regards to using their new equipment. This did not last long, however, as they saw almost constant combat against forces that were equally competent. Namely the Flatlander White Rider and War Elephants.Magic Emergence
After magic started to appear the Commandos' were redeployed from the frontlines of the war. They began fighting against Wizards trying to overthrow the Republic and take power for themselves. Despite extensive combat experience, they were unable to suppress all the newly enhanced Wizards from toppling the Republic. Noteworthy among the Wizards that established the new Imperial Government were the now Emperor and many other Magic-wielding Abnormals.Final Mission
Despite the Republic's government falling and the Imperials taking over the Capital, the Commandos did not end their fight against the Wizards. Seeing no other option they attempted a final desperate push to save the Republic. During the time that the new Renn Empire was being established, all of the major Wizards from within the revolution gathered within the Republic's Senate to discuss how the new government would function. During the meeting, the remaining Republic Commandos launched themselves through the building's windows and started to cut down as many Wizards as they could before the Wizards could formulate a response. The dozens of powerful Wizards and elite soldiers erupted into battle and fighting soon spread throughout the city. The commandos used their Wire launchers to maneuver themselves around the city while Wizards caused catastrophic damage to anything caught in the crossfire. By the end of the fight, nearly 1/5 of the city had turned into rubble, the Republic's Senate had been completely destroyed, and the Republic Commandos were no more.Notes
Although most of the Republic Commandos were killed trying to stop the rise of the Empire, some still continued to fight against Wizards in regional conflicts for some time. This is also what The Empire believed was happening when they lost contact with Siklin Island.
