Dragons
The Tyrants of the Prima Centura
Dragons are the divine children of the Matriarch, who gave them their bodies, and Cosmo the Star Dragon who have them their souls. Allowed to run loose, and with so few competing children of divinity, they placed themselves as Tyrants over the first mortals. Ruling with iron fists, they fought among themselves for power, reveling in being treated as gods by mortals. They organized armies of their cultists to fight each other, trying to displace other Dragons, steal their treasures, prove their worth. As a people, their time came to the end after Stra'hera the Storm Dragon was destroyed, and the Calcians began to hunt them like animals. Weakened by infighting, with the addition of their low births rates and long maturity periods, and by the determined extermination by the Calcians, one by one the Dragons fell, until eventually they faded into legend.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dragons came in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. The basic profile of a dragon was at least two legs, and two wings, with a serpentine body and tail. Their heads were typically crowned with horns or spikes, the same pattern running down their spines to their tails.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dragons mated rarely, only doing so either to keep the species going, or due to unwilling subjection to it. Dragons had a specific cycle, a mating season dependent on their type.
Growth Rate & Stages
Dragons grow slowly, each stage of growth taking about 150 years to complete.
Ecology and Habitats
Depending on their color, and for greater Dragons their Words of Power, a dragon could be found in many places. From the records of the Science and Engineering Committee of Progress:
Red Dragons could be found in the deep places of the mountains by magma. Breathing fire, they typically were the most fearsome of their brethren.
Green Dragons could be found in the jungles of Nar-rar-Gazel, their breath that of poison befitting the area.
Blue Dragons hid in the Badlands, their breath lightning, blessed by Stra'hera the Storm Dragon.
White Dragons lived in the Mountains, high on the frigid Mountaintops, their breath emulating the blizzards that so often plaged them, mostly safe from the world in their high caverns.
Black Dragons could be found in the jungles, their spit acidic and dangerous. They were hated by the locals, and it is said that most of them were slain by Lizardmen.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dragons eat only meat, and will hunt it in differing ways. A red Dragon will fly and find something large, kill it, and feast off that for weeks. A White Dragon however, hunts smaller prey, ambushes it and eats it then. This varies for each type.
