The Coals
Geography
The Coals are a set of volcanic islands amidst a boiling hot sea in the south. Despite the islands (especially the southern ones) getting rather cold, the ocean around them is scalding, providing its own special kind of difficulty in navigating.
The cause of these scalding hot oceans is a ridiculous amount of tectonic activity deep under the sea. The plate on which the coals sit is shattered into many smaller pieces, meaning volcanic and seismic activity is incredibly common in the region, especially underwater. The sheer amount of magma spewing into the surrounding ocean is enough to boil it, in places.
Fauna & Flora
The animals and plants in the water have adapted to survive in the extreme heat, and the island species have adapted to blend in with the constant ash, soot, and lava flows.
