Oakwood-Fighters massacre

Following the assassination of Ryth Redstone, open conflict erupted in Grey Hollow between Oakwood Vanguard and the Fighters Guild, each faction vying for dominance and the favour of House Serrean. In an attempt to undermine the Vanguard, the Fighters Guild elevated one of their Guardians to form a splinter faction known as The Retainers, who briefly occupied the Grey Hollow Keep Ruins south of the settlement. Their interference in strategic land movement prompted House Serrean to order the Vanguard to resolve the situation. The Master, Aliza Everguard, and Tamsin Marshbite responded by storming the ruins and eliminating the Retainers in their entirety. In retaliation, the Vanguard issued warrants on all Fighters Guild members; The Master, The Cat, Tamsin Marshbite, Gresha Bogclutch Ironfang, and a warband of ten goblins of Clan Bogclutch subsequently raided the Fighters Guild quarters in Grey Hollow, killing every inhabitant and ending the dispute. House Serrean’s commander, Deyran Veynar, arrived shortly after and demanded control of the building. Contemporary accounts state that The Master merely raised his hands in acknowledgment and withdrew with his warband without challenge, concluding one of the most decisive—and brutal—guild conflicts in recent Grey Hollow history.

The Conflict

Prelude

Preceding the outbreak of hostilities, Grey Hollow stood at a tense crossroads in the wake of Ryth Redstone’s assassination. Political uncertainty rippled through the region as rival guilds manoeuvred for influence over the fractured Redstone territories. House Serrean’s authority, though outwardly firm, became strained as economic contracts, martial duties, and public loyalty wavered. In this atmosphere, the Oakwood Vanguard and the Fighters Guild shifted from uneasy rivalry to open competition, each seeking to secure legitimacy and regional dominance. What began as covert influence-peddling, recruitment contests, and quiet territorial positioning soon escalated into visible preparations for confrontation—setting the stage for the violent guild conflict that followed.

Deployment

Shortly after the destruction of The Retainers, House Serrean authorised Marauder Vellan of The Oakwood Vanguard to issue writs on all members of the Fighters Guild within Grey Hollow, formally marking them as enemies of the settlement and stripping them of protection or standing. Rather than pursue piecemeal arrests, The Master interpreted the writs as licence for total eradication. He rallied The Cat, Tamsin Marshbite, Gresha Bogclutch Ironfang, and a ten-goblin warband of Clan Bogcloth, then marched directly on the Fighters Guild headquarters. The assault was swift and uncompromising; the hall was stormed, every guild member inside killed, and the Fighters Guild’s presence in Grey Hollow effectively erased in a single action. This decisive and brutal execution of the warrants ended the guild’s challenge to the Vanguard’s authority and cemented The Master’s reputation for absolute, unyielding enforcement of political directives.

Outcome

The Fighters Guild hall was taken over by House Serrean.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Despite House Serrean's warrior culture, it's debated if the writ issued on all Fighters Guild members was correctly used or if the strike force was excessive.
