Maerik
The moat prominent continent on Novus, Maerik was the first landmass to be settled by humans.
Geography
Maerik hosts a variety of different biomes and climates, from grasslands to deserts to tundra. The western side of the continent is the most preferable for human habitability.
Ecosystem
Life on Novus can be categorized into two distinct groups, DNA and Psuedo-DNA organisms. DNA based life has only existed since the arrival of humans, and now completely dominates the mainland of Maerik. Mammals, birds, fish, and arthropods all call the continent their home.
Ecosystem Cycles
During Novus' winter months, the northern coast of the continent usually freezes over, while the rest never sees snow.
Climate
The northernmost region of Maerik is mainly tundra, which freezes over during the winter. Inland on the southern section lies a large desert with rolling sand dunes. The eastern side of Maerik is relatively dry, and greatly varies in temperature with the seasons. The western side of the continent benefits from warm ocean currents, and holds a stable, temperate climate that is comfortable year round.
Fauna & Flora
Mammals, birds, fish, and arthopods inhabit every corner of the continent. Vegetation is abundant, and truly thrives on the wetter, temperate west coast.
Natural Resources
Buried beneath the ground are rich deposits of fossil fuels, created in the distant past from the decomposition of Psuedo-DNA based life which preceded humans. Maerik also possesses many rare and useful metals, which are extracted for Cooperative industry.
