Wallacian Campaign Session #40
General Summary
- The session picked up just after the battle the previous session in the Rum Locker tavern in Pierside.
- Sequestering the three prisoners, "Big Ed" and both a male and female Haskill, Mary explained to the party that her parents had gone missing somewhere in southern Westland, and their female prisoner has what appears to be her mother's locket.
- Before questioning their prisoners, the party decided to tend their wounds. Mary drank the healing potion which Dame Wilkendal had given the party on their first adventure. As Mary drank the contents, a small wax-sealed cylinder fell out of the bottle into her mouth. Opening the cylinder, Mary found the following note:

- The party then questioned their unnamed male Haskill prisoner. In exchange for a promise to release him, he told the party what little he knew. He said that the Haskills had a camp a mile or two south of Pierside, across Wilken's Creek. He pointed out the approximate location on one of Leanna's maps. he did not have much more information of interest, but the party kept their word and released the young man without even asking his name.
- Leanna sent her familiar to follow the released Haskill. He headed north out of town, following the coast road. He passed the army couriers who were heading towards town, and did not appear to converse with them. Mary let her familiar continue to follow the Haskill youth for quite a while. When she finally recalled it, it had nothing else of interest to report.
- Meanwhile, Leanna handed Mary the locket, which she had taken from the prisoner without being noticed. Mary used a hidden catch to open the locket, revealing small portraits of her father and herself when she was younger.
- Questioning the female Haskill, the party once again promised to release her in exchange for information, particularly about the locket. She gave her name as Suanne Haskill. She confirmed the information that the male Haskill had given the party regarding the camp across the creek. She said that she got the locket in trade with the smugglers that "Black Bart" Haskill exchanged cargo with. They met at a different inlet or bayou each time, usually near the middle of the Smuggler's Fen coast.
- Suanne said that the smugglers appeared human or elven, but kept their heads and faces covered. She said that one of the smugglers someone noticed that she was wearing a silver pendant inscribed with a pitchfork, even though it was covered by her clothing. The smuggler traded her the locket for the pitchfork pendant.
- The party released Suanne, and followed her briefly as she headed west, along the road towards Wilken's Mill. Before she passed out of view, she found a sturdy stick next the road, suitable for use as a club. She verified that she could cast her flame spell on it, then continued on her way westward.
- The couriers then arrived in town. They were initially alarmed at the sight of the dead haskills, but the Constable displayed his badge of office, and explained that they were outlaws. The couriers then delivered their letter to the barkeep. The party had he constable ask to see the letter, which he handed over:

- The party and the constable availed themselves of the free round of drinks. They left "Big Ed" Haskill manacled and gagged, and never questioned him. The party decided to rest up overnight before heading out with their remaining prisoner.
- Before turning in, Baka communed with his deity, asking for a Divine Omen. He asked "Are there any Haskills within 1 mile of this town?" His diety responded with a "Yes". Before Baka raised the alarm with his comrades, he noticed Big Ed Haskill snoring a few feet away from him.
- Crow awoke from his sleep with a start, and appeared concerned. He beseeched his deity for a Divine Omen, asking if the dream he just had was for events in the near future. The response from his diety was "Unclear".
- In the morning, the constable convinced the party to take Big Ed to Westport to turn him in for the bounty. There was a ship preparing to set sail at the pier. The party paid the ship captain 20 gold peices to to take them to Westport before leaving for Pharesia.
- Arriving at Wesport, they turned in Big Ed for the 400 gp of the more recent bounty posters.
- Some of the party visted Marcus Dendrar at the Mortar & Pestle. They found that he was still charging about double for healing potions. He also offered a protective potion for 100 gp, and said that he could produce a fire resistance potion for 75 gp if the party provided certain rare components to him.
- The next day, the party left through the south gate, heading to Pierside along the coast road. At Pierside, they then turned west heading towards Wilken's Mill. Along the way, they found no signs of Haskills, nor the army patrol they had seen on their previous trip.
- Just before they reached Wilken's Mill, the party spotted an army encampment. Stopping by the camp, they did not spot any Haskills about. It appeared to be the main force of Captain Tolk's command. They troops they spoke to had not seen any criminal activity.
- Continuing on to town, the party visited Dame Wilkendal, who ave them directions to the Dendrar estate. It turned out to be near where the party spotted a woman harvesting herbs in a gully on their first journey north.
- Visiting that gully, they found a small potion bottle in a clump of columbine. There was no liquid in the bottle, but there was another note, nearly identical to the first one they found in a potion bottle.
- The party found the estate nearby, and surveyed it from a nearby hill. A single house, a green house, a barn, and an outhouse. Two small herb gardens were near the house, one surrounded by a low stone wall, the other one surrounded by a taller hedge. Throughout the day, they spotted to two men armed with swords, and Suanne, also re-armed with a sword.
- The party intends to advance on the house after sunset...
