Smuggler's Fen

This water-logged expanse of terrain dominates the southern end of Westland.  Stretching from the western shore of Brigand's Bay to the foothills of the western mountains lies numerous salt marches, swamps, flooded forested, meandering stream, and bayous.  The southernmost edge of the fen rises steeply before meeting the rocky black cliffs that drop into the strait around Cape Storm.   The myriad inlets and streams, along with the distinct lack of solid ground, make travel by land very difficult.  Even by small boat, it is easy to get lost, or accidentally bypass areas you intend to search.  This makes the area attractive to smugglers who wish to transfer contraband beyond the prying eyes of Wallacian authorities.   Recently, Captain Sullis of the Westland regulars broke up a smuggling ring operating out of Smuggler's Fen.  As a reward, both the Captain and his entire company were rotated out to a drier posting to the north.  Captain Nikola Tolk and his company took over responsibility for the southern patrol area.
