Eladrin

A swirl of powerful energies. The faces of the seasons themselves flashing in my mind constantly. I vaguely remember the moments that I wandered into the strange lands that I've seen in my dreams, a land of faeries. As far as my memory allows, I remember being approached by two powerful envoys, one of a bright white complexion that seemed to feel like winter itself. The other as warm as a radiant summer's day. They felt like figures of the seasons themselves, and yet here they were, just casually talking to me. Asking if I was okay.
— An archmage's account of entering the Fae Lands and meeting two Eladrin.

Eladrin, also known as Season Elves, are a community of elves that mainly live in the Fae Lands, however over the centuries, many have found their way to the mortal plane. All of them find themselves linked with one of the four seasons, though this is often a constant change through their existence. They are members of both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, being closely linked with Aondra.

Description

Eladrin share many traits with others of an elven and fae lineage, such as pointed ears and elongated features. However, they differ in their connection to the seasons. Each Eladrin demonstrates their connection to a season in different forms including changing hair, eye, or skin color to match the season they are connected to.   Some Eladrin find their moods shift with the different seasons. Those who are in one season for a long time either find themselves entrenched in the form or find themselves being pushed more and more to shift to a different season. Usually a powerful moment of an emotion associated with another season can cause an Eladrin to transform, but some powerful fae magic has also been able to achieve such a change.

Abilities

Eladrin share many traits with other elf ancestries, however they have some unique links due to their connection with both seasons and the fae. Most importantly, when they rest or at any time they wish, they may voluntarily change their season. In doing so, their appearance slowly shifts to resemble their new season, and their fae magic takes on links to their new season.   Due to their seasonal shift being caused by their ancient connection with the fae, in each of their seasonal states, an Eladrin can teleport to a space within a short distance of themselves. Many Eladrin have learned to use this ability a number of times during a day, letting them travel short distances quickly. When they teleport a special magical effect occurs depending on the Eladrin's current season.
  • Spring allows the Eladrin to teleport another willing creature.
  • Summer causes a burst of flames where the Eladrin teleports.
  • Autumn produces an enchanting aura where the Eladrin teleports.
  • Winter creates a frightening aura where the Eladrin teleports.
Powerful Eladrin have learned to be more resistant to elemental attacks and resistant to different forms of magic itself. Additionally, spells that target humanoids are ineffective on Eladrin due to their status as a fae.

History

Eladrin can trace their origins back to the first of the Elven people. In the earliest days of The Dawning, Yldrivon created a domain for his creations alongside the abilities of Tral'Vokar and Chrovor. To populate this domain, he created humanoid people, shifted slightly in his image. These were the first primordial elves, influenced by the strange magics of the planes.   In the later days of The Dawning, a number of elves split off to visit the material plane and depart from the strange dream-like nature of the Fae Lands. However, there were a number of elves who stayed in the lands are became influenced even further by their fae nature. Within those who stayed, the Eladrin became unique due to their links to the seasons influenced by powerful magical chaos.   During the formation of the Court System of the Fae, the Eladrin were underrepresented by any potential archfae. Many of the archfae wanted Eladrin to be members of the courts and gave them positions in the different seasonal courts should they wish to join. However, the system also allowed many of the Eladrin to form their own societies and domains, if they could gather a population large enough.
