Anatomy
The Zouwu was "five-coloured" and resembled a "gigantic elephant-sized cat".[4] It was a monstrously large feline-like beast with a striped body similar to that of a tiger, scraggly lion-like mane, four fangs that curled out of its mouth, long sharp claws, and a disproportionately long, ruffled multicoloured tail.

Much like a regular cat, the Zouwu appears to be attracted to the sound of a jingling bell, which seemed to be able to able to calm it down.
