Ecology and Habitats
Intensely shy, the Augurey live in a tear-shaped nest in thorn and brambles.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Its diet consist of insects, fairies and flies, which it hunts for in the heavy rain.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The cry of the Augurey signals approaching rainfall. When it was learned that Augureys can foretell the coming of rain, they are used as weather forecasters. However, the continual moaning from them during the winter months is difficult to bear.
Augurey feathers repel ink, making them useless as Quill feathers. However, the magical Quill of Acceptance that recordes prospective students for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Book of Admittance is believed to come from an Augurey.
