Irzen City

The looming fortress that lies within the Arode Desert has been fighting off the constant threat of undead invasion for centuries. Irzal is the renowned center of both combat and fine metal arts.

Demographics

The majority of Irzen's population is composed of Talos and Draconians, owing to the strong presence of fire and steel magic in Arode. Outsiders are quite uncommon in the city, due to the treachery of the desert, though some skilled warriors or particularly resolute smiths will make the journey through the desert to learn from the city's craft.

Defences

The desert city has many defences to assure against attack, mainly against skeletons. The walls are nearly 2 meters thick, comprised entirely of reinforced sandstone. Towers line these walls, and allow for archers to take aim and fire from a high vantage point, and massive bronze gates charged with Fire magic are ready to be closed at any moment.

Industry & Trade

Irzen stays running on its metalwork and military industry. Unlike that of Eluroc or the settlement in Tetsana Valley, the smithing scene in the desert's bastion focuses more on implements of magical significance, making use of the abundance of elementally-charged metal in the desert. Jewelers are common, making items fit for enchantment, and most blacksmiths make blades that are intended for serving as magical conduits, rather than true physical combat. As such, the metalwork of Irzen has taken a very distinctly ornate style that reflects its more arcane nature. In regards to combat, the "official" services that the city provides are training for becoming a soldier, whether it be for Irzen or any other city. However, in the shadier parts of the city, killers for hire do make themselves available.

Districts

As one would imagine, all of the combat training and practice in the city are usually separated from daily life. Many barracks and armories are positioned near the east and west gates of the city, in order to maximize attention to possible dangers to the city. Aside from that, the other distinct difference in areas or districts is the market sector of Irzen, placed in the city's center. This bazaar is where all manners of products are sold, from blades to pendants to the desert's confectionary goods.

Assets

Irzen's biggest assets lie in the form of its skilled population of artisans and warriors, as the harshness of the desert has created a particularly strong need for these skills. In addition to the wealth of work experience, though, the settlement also owns several reliable gold and elemental bronze mines.
