Demographics
Nishari is the dominant language in the city, as about 40.7% of the city's population speak it as a first language. The second most spoken language is Persian, followed by Pashto, at 12.4% and 12.2% respectively. Other languages that have populations over 1 million include Varni, Punjabi, and Uzbek. Ethnically, Nishari is also the largest population, although their numbers are boosted because speakers of Varni and Dakhsini are ethnically categorized as Nishari. Religiously, Vedism is the largest religion in the city, more or less corresponding to the Nishari ethnicity in Nishapur. Interestingly, the number of Sikhs in the country is larger than the number of Punjabis in the city, due to a large amount of Turkic Sikh Converts, a population entirely localized within Nishapur.
Climate
The area around Nishapur is chiefly a desert, although irrigation efforts since the city's founding have allowed a moderate amount of green to grow around the city.
