Lhodos Tundra

The northern lands of Lhodos are a harsh tundra where only the hardiest peoples can eke out a living. Even for those accustomed to such climates, the tundra proves itself harsh and unforgiving of mistakes. There is danger not only from the cold and wind, but of the creatures more suited to this environment than humanoids. Winter wolves, yetis, and white dragons are just a few of the many dangers that prowl the wastes, eager to make a meal of humanoids who wander too far from their protected settlements. Despite these challenges, the tundra is nonetheless home to settlements that can be found on its borders near the seas and mountains with only a few scattered mines near the center of the icy wastes.   The largest of these settlements, Vyroing, is ruled by King Flurious, a tyrant who rules through military force and works his people harshly in the region's mines. Though this commerce does bring coin into the country, but a trickle of this makes its way to the peasants while the majority fills Flurious' coffers. Worse still, any who work in his mines begin to suffer slowly as the poisonous effects of the quicksilver they search for take hold over their health. Yet many are forced to work for the food they need to survive, often scraping by day to day if they are lucky. Most of his subjects are snow elves as well as silver or white dragonborn, peoples naturally resistant to the tundra's cold, though others can be found here as well.   The nearby village of Yorme is home to both triton and aaratica, who are the only ones capable of fishing the cold seas around the Lhodos Tundra. Though they are skilled fishers, the residents of Yorme are not skilled fighters are often find themselves pressured by King Flurious and his military force in matters of trade and politics.   Further away, the town of Copper Run is home to clans of goliaths with mines of their own, though theirs are much safer. This is both due to the higher standards the goliaths have for safety, thanks to their strong sense of community, and the fact that they are mining copper rather than quicksilver. They are largely left alone by King Flurious on account of being skilled fighters, a trait they acquired by necessity due to the yetis in their region of the tundra.
