Tenets of Faith

Families should have large homes and stay together until the death of the eldest grandparents.

When the grandparents die their firstborn inherits the house and land and is responsible for helping his/her siblings find/build their own homes to take their families to.

when a young couple marries, the one who changes their name is the one to join the family of their spouse. this will typically result in the woman joining the mans family and taking his name, but sometimes the man will join the woman's family and take her name, especially if she has no brothers or if she is the firstborn and inline to run her own household someday

the firstborn always has first rights to the main house and land regardless of gender and it wont be entirely uncommon for firstborn daughters to choose to find a man to take her name and become the house leader. but it also wont be uncommon for firstborn daughters to choose to join another family instead and leave the family home to her younger siblings, and it wouldn't be entirely unheard of for firstborn sons to join another family and leave the house to younger siblings aswell

the disbandment of the family is unacceptable. the elder siblings are the most socially expected to stay and continue the family, but should they choose to reject that and leave they essentially force the youngest to stay and take on the responsibility. families may adopt if fertility is low to help increase the likelihood that at least one of their children will want to stay home, but little can be done once they're all adults. stories of younger siblings being stuck duty bound to carry on the family should be extremely rare but aren't likely to be completely absent

each home should have a family tree with pictures of each of the family members. start with the founder and all of their children, then whoever inherits the house and becomes the new leader you have all of their children and so on until the living leader and their siblings which then all of the descendants of the living leader are on the tree and it gets reconfigured each time the leadership passes hands as family members leave to the other houses and are taken off the wall. only the siblings of leaders stay forever, to represent the base of a new branch and household that originated from this one
