The Flame-Child
Vlaasti was the Empress of Daeruin and the mother of Derarose. Her regnal name was the Flame-Child, and she was most notorious for her founding and brutal upkeep of the Dragon Cult. Throughout Daeruin, worship of the fabled red dragon of the volcano known as Mt. Valraath persisted through torture, a lockdown of the borders, and suppression of information. Under her reign, inquisitors and dragon priests held unprecedented sway over the politics and daily lives of the Dark Elves. Naturally, a rule so unstable and cruel was bound to end in blood. The Flame-Child ruled by fear and insanity and was detested by her people. During her reign, the Great Houses became more powerful due to the intense dissent oozing from the wounds left by Vlaasti, a status they enjoy to this day. Ultimately, what killed her may be lost to time. Some say it was poison, others say she took her own life, and yet some cast blame on her sole surviving son, who ascended to the throne after her death.
