The Midwest Refugees

After the implosion of the Midwest Alliance, millions of citizens were forced to flee collapsing cities, brutal Citigov despots, paramilitary groups and dire environmental conditions. Scattered to the winds, these displaced families were forced to pick which corpo-state could offer them the best chance of survival. Many did not survive the harsh conditions and rampant violence that flooded the ruins of the Midwest Alliance, but for those making the journey across the blighted plains and sun-baked deserts, the lights of Neo Vegas offered some measure of hope.   Neo Vegas was not prepared to deal with such an unexpected surge in population, and Vulcan Construction can only build so quickly. Hundreds of thousands of refugees now occupy the abandoned warehouses and shipping centres that line the outskirts of Sunrise-Skylink, and CitiGov bureaucratic centres are overwhelmed attempting to process so many applications for citizenship. The corps, however, smell opportunity, and Santopitar & Associates have been offering to help ease the refugees burdens by enlisting them in lucrative, low-barrier contracts... but the fine print clearly indicates that any refugee signing on with Santopitar will likely be deployed to high-danger industrial zones, including the asteroid belts. Desperate labour is always the cheapest to exploit, after all.    The refugees are lead by Sarah Taylor, who inherited the position from her mother during their travels across the desert. Sarah wasn't expecting to suddenly be tasked with the safety and security of so many people, and she's quickly learning that there isn't any way to safeguard her charges without getting her hands dirty.
