Tibbin Reedwhistle
"Oh, that's no ordinary ring. That, my friend, belonged to a merchant prince who tried to outbid a ghost. Long story."
— Tibbin Reedwhistle, after a dramatic pause
Appearance
A well-groomed
Halfling with a sharp eye and sharper wit, Tibbin is rarely seen without his magnifying lens dangling from a golden chain around his neck. His clothing is always tailored, though a bit flashy, often including pinstripes, velvet cuffs, and an ascot that matches his mood. His curly auburn hair is always neatly parted, and his feet, like most halflings, are bare but spotless.
Background
Tibbin was born in the bustling hill-quarters of [articlelink:Ilthmar], the fourth son in a long line of traders and antiquarians. He developed an early fascination with oddities and magical curios, which led him to apprentice under a dwarven gemcutter and later a
Mythan Belanore artifact historian. He eventually settled in
Oakhaven, where he opened a small but highly respected appraisal and auction house simply titled
Reedwhistle’s Rarities.
Known for his uncanny ability to sniff out a forgery at fifty paces, Tibbin has built trust among both locals and powerful collectors. He’s also the go-to appraiser for adventurers who return with unusual spoils.
Services
Appraisal: Magic and mundane items expertly identified (Arcana +9, History +8).
Auctioning: Holds auctions in
Oakhaven seasonally, and takes premium items to larger venues in
Ilthmar and
Lankhmar.
Brokerage: Facilitates trades between collectors, nobles, and
Guilds.
Tibbin met
Lilly Genrill shortly after she purchased the dilapidated Rusty Dagger. Impressed by her ambition (and charmed by her warm smile), Tibbin offered to help her appraise old trinkets she found during renovations. Over time, their working relationship blossomed into a deep mutual respect—and in Tibbin’s case, a not-so-secret infatuation. Though he has yet to formally confess his feelings, he always ensures her items receive top billing at auction.
Personality
Charming, theatrical, and endlessly curious, Tibbin thrives on stories and secrets. He is meticulous in his work, and although some see his flair as excessive, no one doubts his expertise. He's always eager to share a cup of tea and a good tale.

"Identifying cursed items is like dating. It looks good at first… but then it whispers to you at night."
