The Festival of Blood and Iron
Now the end of the conflict known as The Generation of Blood and Iron is celebrated with the Festival of Bloodand Iron. With the victory of Gerlander the Martyred, the founding of the a coherent nation and Royal Dynasty, a week of celebration is had across the Country of Gerlander. Rather than competing festivals, the primary festival of Blood and Iron resides in the city who holds the leader of Gerlander.
The Festival consists of the whole city playing host to all manner of events. Each city has a big coliseum situated somewhere within. It is the focal point of these festivals. There are presentations of Technology, drinking competitions, trials of the Flesh and mind and a week of Gladiatorial games!
Crafts people from all over the Empire come to sell their wares. Anything from foreign delicacies and trinkets, to magical items and gear.
History
The end of the Generation of Blood and Iron is celebrated every ten years, five years after a new Jarl takes power. The Festival was officially established when the Empire brought order to the country. Before that each city had their own events and often went to war with other cities when their people lost. Now it is simply a politcal blow when a combatant looses. Outside of the Tournoment it is a time to show off advancements in magic, technology and the strength of their warriors.
Execution
The most common event is the Contest of Blood and Iron. It is a tournament that consists of three brackets; Unarmed Combat, Martial Combat and Magical Duals. Contestants compete to become the champion of one or more and gain fame and glory. Behind the scenes, the noble houses of the city are sponsoring and giving fabors to the combatants they like the most. These "Sponsored" Warriors gain secret advantages in the fights. These can be anything from bribing judges to look the other way to giving the warriors magical boons. The winners of these events tend to gain a mark of status as Champions of Blood and Iron.

Observance
The epicenter of the festival is the city's coleseum. It is here that the events play out for all to see. These low stakes "blood sports" allow for the nobles to exert power over one another without falling back on war and murder, as those are frowned upon by the Empire.
