Blackpeak Isle

A fairly sizeable island, Blackpeak Isle gets its name from Blackpeak Mountain, which is the first thing an approaching sailor would see from afar. Blackpeak is split into three main parts, the mountain, and the surrounding slopes, and caves, the jungle, which is filled with birds, monkeys and fruits, and the beach, with only one side of the island not being a rocky cliff, that is also where the village is and most people live. Blackpeak Isle is home to a relatively large village, though its poppulation has recently been reduced after the brutal rule of pirate captain Vathuli, before being liberated.

A few years ago, a dread pirate called Vathuli, the Iron Handed arrived at Blackpeak, and with their bloodthirsty pirates took over the village as his stronghold. While the peaceful folk of the island put up fierce resistance at first, through infighting and brutality the pirates managed to break their spirit and maintain control. It was shortly after that, that it was discovered by the pirates that the caves around Blackpeak mountain were rich in Iron, and also had very small amounts of Pelladrin. The discovery of the highly valuable metal immediately called to the greed of the pirates, who turned the fishing village folk into miners, and exported their ore and smelted bars to the Grizdenwald Duchy, through their contacts with the Guild of the Golden Eagle. This quickly turned the living conditions on Blackpeak from bad to worse, and the once peaceful folk were forced to work round the clock to mine in dangerous conditions, under the pirates whip.

Eventually their prayers for salvation were answered, as the Oceansreach Council noted the active trade route, and sent the The Weaverider Pirates to investigate the island. After a brief stop to liberate Alanthra from the pirates rule, who were stealing the fisherfolks catch to feed their miners, the emissaries of Oceansreach made their way to Blackpeak, where their fierce reputation proceeded them. Through a daring infiltration of the pirate stronghold through feinting surrender to Vathuly, the Weaverider pirates ambushed all the pirates together, and slayed them to a man, before they managed to do any damage to the village or its people in their panick.

Now, under the control and protection of Oceansreach, Blackpeak Isle has once again found a time of peace, as its people work to rebuild their homes and community. However, the pirates of Oceansreach are nothing if not opportunistic, and have already set up work camps where their workers live and mine the Iron and Pelladrin, which are also heavilly guarded. The ore will prove to be a strong trading resource for the burgeoning free city, if they can keep it.
