Faari

These pseudodragons aren't just myths. They're almost fairy tales. For generations there have been stories of fairies in the woods. In the early 3rd Age it was thought that all of such stories were connected to Pixin, small sentient fairies. Scholars even discounted Doctor Ivan Sanderson's own account of them. No one believed they could possibly exist, even centuries after his death.

But everyone was wrong. These Mystimon simply have always been so timid and so elusive, that they actively tried not to be seen by anyone. By some accounts they even have the ability to go invisible and remain completely undetected. But as Doctor Ivan Sanderson once said, "If a Mystimon wants to be found, you will find it. On the other hand if it does not wish to be found, you will come up empty every single time, until such time it wishes to be found."

These Mystimon prove that very sentiment. They are easily scared away, so very much timid and immensely shy. It is in their nature to hide as much as possible and to remain undetected. If you manage to befriend one, count yourself lucky, for gaining their trust is immensely difficult. But once you have befriended one, you will have gained a friend for life.

Social Structure

They appear to group together in large family groups. From Doctor Ivan Sanderson's notes he observed a single larger female creature which they others seemed to revere, as in a matriarchal-like society. They appear to be quite intelligent creatures.

Facial characteristics

They have a small green snake-like head with light green eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

So far they have only been detected in deep forests in Olympus.

Average Intelligence

For pseudodragon Mystimon, they appear to be quite intelligent. From Doctor Ivan Sanderson's notes, it appeared they were almost curious of him, and seemed to observe him much like he was observing them. It is unknown just how intelligent they really are. However they seem to communicate with one another via a form of photosynthesis, by making their wings glow in different colours and patterns.

Discovery

From the notes of Doctor Ivan Sanderson.

"I have always said that Mystimon will only be found whenever they wish to be found, and not a second before. This Mystimon is no different I believe. Many of the accounts from the Fey of these 'faeries' as they called them were differing. This is what piqued my interest in the matter. For some were described as tiny human-like beings with butterfly wings or the like. And yet others were described as small snakes with butterfly wings. These, I believed, were an entirely different species, and these were the ones I focused my research upon.

This one I did not bring along Jane for. My intuition told me that to bring along anyone else would only serve to scare these timid creatures away and cause it so I would never found them. And it would appear that my intuition was correct. If you wish to find these Mystimon, hear me now. Only approach them completely alone. If you bring with you even a single other person, you will never find them. Only when you are completely alone will they show themselves to you. And what a wondrous sight they are to behold. Absolutely majestic.

I went into the Olympian woods to camp. I was there for seven days and seven nights. I went there with a single other person, that was all, a guide, nothing more. I had done no different on any other expedition. But here it would prove to be a mistake. For I never saw a single thing for seven days. But upon the seventh night, I was separated from my guide for just a couple of hours. And that is when they finally deemed me worthy enough to show themselves. At first I thought them to be rather large butterflies. Glowing butterflies. But that was until I noticed their bodies: long serpentine bodies, green in colour, with a small snake-like head and tiny green eyes. They flew around me in a swarm, as though they were curious of me. A moment later they were gone. It was an encounter I will never forget for the rest of my days."
