The Cheap Lord Pub
The Cheap Lord Pub is the local tavern in the hamlet of Gulade. It is the sole proprietor of drink and food in the community and frequented by all of the locals. Its owner, Wynne, is a tall female human with a somber demeanor. On most evenings, the common room is abundant with patrons drinking, laughing, gambling, and (occasionally) fighting.
Design
The simple, wooden front door leads into a long rectangular room stretching towards the back. Tables line the right side of room with a large stained window looking out to a small courtyard housing more tables around a firepit. On the left is long, oak topped bar spanning the back two thirds of the room. The vaulted ceiling is lined with sheets of ornate copper that dance with shadow and glimmer in the light of the torches along the walls. At the back are a pair of swinging doors that lead to the kitchen and larder.
Sensory & Appearance
When you enter on a busy evening, roars of laughter and the constant rumble of conversation ripples around you. The smell of roasted meat and baked bread wafts through, filling the air in the tavern. Light and shadow dance along the paintings a floor from the ceiling in the dim light of torches. The occasional clatter of a falling chair or dropped mug by any of the, less than upright, patrons seems to go unnoticed by all those gathered. The glow of the fire pit in the courtyard dances through the large stained window, casting colorful flickers across the tables.
Denizens
Wynne, a tall female human with flowing black hair and a slender face, tends behind the bar, pouring ale and spirits. Frederick Cloudfang moves back and forth through the kitchen doors, cooking and bringing food to patrons.
Contents & Furnishings
Most of the tables are lofted slabs of hearty oak surrounded by half a dozen bar stools. Several paintings line the walls displaying portraits of founding figures and landscapes of rolling fields mirroring the surrounding farm land. Most notable of these paintings is that of a local legend; a hero named Valuk Maelthra. Old scythes and livestock harnesses are mounted among the paintings. Donations and reminders of the local livelihood in the area.
Architecture
The tavern is constructed from reddish-brown stones reaching two stories high. The copper lining the ceiling is thin and ornately decorated in the style of elven artisans. Stained glass windows flank the dark oak, front door with an immensely large stained window on the south side overlooking the small courtyard adjacent. The window depicts greens and yellows of rolling fields and crops.
History
The building was originally the home of a wealthy family that has since moved out of the area. After a fire and the family abandoned the home, it was taken apart and rebuilt to be purposed as the local business it is today. It is rumored that this very tavern is where Valuk Maelthra and his cousin Xalvador met their companions before setting off into the wilds, and claiming their fortune and renown.
