Fort Xuaka
Fort Xuaka is Earl Ranald Milaka's foothold on the Anfla Island. The first settlement of his ambitious expansion plans.
Its keep is constructed from recycled stone from the ruined buildings of a former colony abandoned over two hundred years ago.
Economy
The colony is not self-sufficient. Apart from several small herds of goats and hardy sheep, the settlement relies on supplies from the mainland and trade with the locals.
The constable has discreetly sent guildsmen to survey the island to find potential exploitable resources, while the Innkeeper Ornof Dagen has started exporting his Golden Mead. The Miners Guild has recently tentatively occupied the nearby stone quarry.
Leadership
The Earl has appointed Sir Tyson Silar, the constable of Fort Xuaka. Sir Tyson was chosen for his diplomatic skills and his astute mind. He also has learned to speak the Adaenum tongue well.
1 - Fort Xuaka
The fort is built from recycled materials from ruined Xuaka era constructions. It has a garrison of 28 men-at-arms loyal to the Earl.
2 - Raven's Roost/Meadhall-Inn
Owner: Ornof Dagen Staff: 3 Quality: Low Prices: Low Specialty: Golden Mead
Innkeeper Ornof Dagen is an Orbaalnese mercenary who, under mysterious circumstances, washed ashore on one of the smaller islands in 722. He was rescued by an Adaenum fisherman and married a local woman, making his home at Xuaka Fort, where he built a mead hall and inn. Ornof, who does not seem to have any Innkeeper credentials, is deeply ashamed of how many of his clansmen treat their Jarinese subjects and does not want to see this pattern repeated on the island. He also makes a good income from his Golden Mead. The island is a rich source of Honey.
3 - Village of the Outcasts
A small collection of Adaenum round huts. The Barbarians who live in them have either been outcasts from their tribes or are interested in learning the ways of their civilized neighbors. Some may be spies.
These tribesmen serve as guides and translators. Others help increase the settlement's food supplies by fishing.
4 - Gaileach Au Cathei
Gaileach Au Cathei is roughly translated from Adaenum to The Witch's Cauldron. The Adaenum barbarians believe the evil Earth Witch cursed this ancient six-stone henge and the cave network below. They avoid it.
The cave has been explored, and aside from disturbing ancient wall paintings, a hidden shaft leads to an underground chamber, which, according to legend, houses the mortal remains of the demigod Manaclir.
5 - Hunter/Bower
Owner: Lorish Weaven Staff: 3 Quality: Average Prices: Low Specialty: White Wood Bows
Lorish Weaven's distinctive white bows are popular among the settlement's hunters.
History
Adaenum tribespeople first occupied the site around 1,000 years ago. However, their settlements appear to have been quickly abandoned, possibly believing the site is cursed.
441TR - Xuaka, King of Aleathia, planned to expand his kingdom, and this location was chosen as his first base of operations and port on the island. He built a second, more extensive settlement inland.
447TR - With King Xuaka's endeavors focused on his war with the Corani Empire, this settlement was abandoned.
717TR - Earl Ranald Milaka decided he wanted to expands his holdings. He has made contact with the local Adaenum tribes, hoping to incorporate them into the kingdom, preferably peacefully; however, he has not ruled out military action. He set up his base at the ruined former colony of King Xuaka.
722TR - The Earl finishes building the fort and the pier. He actively promotes migration, aiming to establish a strong foothold on the island.
