Eldest Ones

The Eldest Ones, also known as the Da Anchen, are entities feared by the Emhle people of the Kingdom of Emelrene. They are terrifying, ethereal beings that appear in ancient, damaged places, cold and dark areas, and remote wildernesses far from civilization.

Those who have encountered the Eldest Ones and survived describe them as ethereal presences, elemental beings of cold, death, pain, decay, and rot, cloaked in shadows and darkness. They are also believed to be able to invade dreams.

These creatures seem to move quite slowly, gliding through the earth, but when aroused, they can move with sudden, terrifying speed. Their passage leaves no traces; however, animals, insects, and other creatures are struck with fear at the mere sight of them. Victims of the Eldest Ones are reported to have suffered frostbite, nausea, and rapid aging. The Eldest Ones dislike light and try to extinguish it.

What the Eldest Ones are is a matter of conjecture; some researchers believe they are ethereal beings from the dead plane of Durathrhor, while others suggest they are ancient and corrupted servants of the long-lost Earthmasters.
