Session 36

After having retrieved a mysterious key from an ancient Phasnosh Civilization sarcophagus, the Party continued their exploration of the crypt. They headed back the way they came, past the stairwell to the passageways on the east side. Vigwalin checked the door and could hear nothing on the other side. The barbarian Bloodbane pushed open the door and briefly inspected the room. It appeared clear save for another three sarcophagi. Typhon inspected the room and discovered yet another key. As soon as the elf wizard withdrew the key, another black pudding poured out of the tomb.   Bloodbane hacked at it with his axe, splitting the ooze in two. Kasras launched an arrow that met its mark, tearing a hole through the creature. Sir Didymus finally joined the fray, stabbing and freezing the creature with his sword, Frost Brand. After a few more violent exchanged, the creature was bested, and the group had in their possession a second mysterious key.   They continued through the crypt to the next room, where Vigwalin heard a heavy growly breathing on the other side. Sir Didymus pushed the door open gently, revealing a massive werebear sitting in the gloom facing the opposite direction. Sir Didymus crept up behind him, and managed to get a surprise attack off on the lumbering creature. The beast stood on his hind legs and roared, triggering the werewolves in the next room to come running. Typhon cast wall of ice to keep them out, but one managed to get by just in the nick of time. Both creatures roared and slashed and bit at the Party. The werebear tore at Bloodbane, rending flesh from bone; the barbarian cut it down with his axe. A werewolf was killed by a member of the Party, leaving one trapped behind the ice wall. The fourth beast fled into a hallway behind it.   The werewolf paced back and forth like a locked up beast. Its cunning told it to use the lit brazier to melt the wall, and it did so. Typhon responded by hitting the wall with a firebolt to speed the process. The beast sprang out, lunging at the wizard without any regard for its own safetey. Bloodbane and Sir Didymus intercepted it before it could gouge out Typhon's throat. A well-placed strike cut the creature down where it stood. Now, the Party must decide whether or not to follow the escaped werewolf or continue exploring the crypt.
