Kephalos (Keff-Ah-Loss)
Kephalos is the God of the Moon and Herald of Dusk. As the sun sets below the horizon and night begins to fall on the land shrouding the world in its inky blackness, high in the sky is Kephalos; the Moon of Midasfjall which keeps that last of dawn's light radiating down upon the world until dawn comes around once again. Kephalos brings dusk when Ismene descends from her perch towards the end of the day. It is believed that the two are lovers who chase each other through the sky but can never meet. Followers of Kephalos guard against the terrors of the darkness, using the divine power of moonlight to scour their enemies and shield those they seek to protect. Kephalos shares dominion over the nocturnal animals of the material plane with Gaia, the Elemental Prime of earth. Owls are said to be his favoured servants. Devotees of Kephalos abhor fiends and the undead as abominations that disrupt the tranquil peace that is supposed to exist beneath the pale moon, and they fight against such creatures when they come across them.
The curse of lycanthropy is associated with Kephalos as when infected, a person changes at the next full moon. These people warp and twist into the form of a humanoid-like monster, losing all semblance of humanity and giving full reign to the beast within which results in the lycanthrope entering a bloodlust frenzy, killing any creature it can get its claws, fangs or tusks on. Lycanthropy is therefore reviled in most societies and those afflicted are hunted and killed upon discovery, leading those who wish to survive to seek shelter in woodlands or high up mountains. It is thought, among some few followers of Kephalos, that people afflicted with lycanthropy are the remnants of an ancient order of paladins who swore to eradicate fiends and undead in the name of the Herald of Dusk. In exchange for their service, Kephalos granted them a ferocious lycanthrope form to better fight against the disgusting monstrosities. Stories of this order are myth, but the tales that are told speak of the holy warriors training to control the beast within, channeling the wild bloodlust towards the abominations that must be wiped from the material plane.
