They then return to Halforden, a city in the Godless Peninsula, to report back to Inquisitor Harin and suprisingly encounter Inquisitor Commander Ortin, who informs them that the conspiracy and threat has widened. Structure
Exposition
Inquisitor Jovic Balan, a former famed Xenoplanar Hunter Assembly agent, has gone rogue. For whatever reason he has seemingly turned away from the Empire, stopping reporting in, obfuscating official proceedings, lying to associates and his superiors, and even going so far as to assault a fellow Assembly agent. A widening conspiracy web has been unvealed that potentially could pose a major threat to the Empire. No longer is it a rogue agent exposed to and corrupted by otherwordly forces, but it seems to be a coordinated, widened, and ever expanding conspiracy.
Conflict
Balan seems to have lost his mind, and with the connections, potential allies and associates helping him, and assets and power an Inquisitor wields, regardless of being declared a traitor, it is highly dangerous for such an individual to exist and not be killed or captured.
Seemingly, Balan is searching for Old World weapons of mass destruction be they scientific, magical, or otherwise.
Components
Goals
The goals of the party are simple - stop Balan.
Hooks
The Black Fortress has been called a location of interest along with the associated location underneath the Fortress, The Dark Cells.
Stakes
The stakes are simple as well, for who knows what horror and destruction a rogue inquisitor of such power could unleash if not stopped.
Moral Quandaries
What exactly caused Balan to go rogue? Could it be justified? Could there be a different cause or reasoning other than becoming a traitor? What if Balan is doing this for a genuine reason that is loyal to the Empire, but is being framed due to Church, Assembly or general government politics?
