Hobgoblins
Hobgoblins are a cousin to the much more common goblin. Like the Bugbears, they are the result of Orcs breeding programs to breed taller and stronger Goblins to be used for war. Hobgoblins, unlike Bugbears, were however bred to match the Orcs in size and build, providing them the ability to use orcish war equipment without significant modification. Most hobgoblins managed to gain their independence much earlier than their goblin and bugbear cousins, fighting a brutal civil war centuries ago before migrating to a previously uninhabited subcontinent that later became known as the Blood Empire.
The Blood Empire became largely separated from the nations of Elathia after the Neran Cataclysm turned the deserts of Nerim, lying between them and Elathia, into an uninhabitable wasteland filled with the undead. This has meant the sudden integration of the hobgoblins into the other species of Elthelas as a result of The Mixing has been particularly jarring.
