Prometheans
Type: Elemental
Prometheans are creatures created by scientific procedures, either by deliberate experiment, or accidentally. Most nonmagical artificially-created creatures count as prometheans.
- Abilities: Like mutants, who are closely related to them, prometheans often have superpowers. These powers may be granted deliberately, or as an unforeseen result of the experiment that created them. As prometheans often come in a wide array of physical forms, they often have strange physical abilities, too.
- Origin: Whether created deliberately or accidentally, prometheans are the result of weird science. Some are created completely from scratch, while others are the result of a traumatic transformation. Prometheans created from living people are transformed not only physically but mentally, erasing whoever they were before and giving them an entirely new identity. Lab-created creatures with heavy mechanical augmentation are usually considered cyborgs rather than prometheans.
- Varieties: The promethean namesake is Frankenstein’s monster. But there are many different kinds of prometheans, from genetically modified clones, to surgically-created hybrids, to experimental creatures grown in vats.
- Personality: Prometheans are not born naturally, but created. Because of this, they often find it difficult to figure out their place in the world. They are often both physically and mentally very different from their creators, which can leave them feeling outcast. In some cases, when prometheans were created by experiments done on living people, parts of their previous personalities may begin to manifest.
- Visibility: Complicated. While most people have heard of experimental biological procedures, the general public is unaware just how numerous prometheans are. In order to avoid causing panic, the existence of most prometheans tends to be covered up.
