Demigods

Type: Divine   Demigods are hybrids of mortal and divine; powerful living gods that walk the earth. Sometimes they are sent by the gods as their agents, other times they are the results of divine and human pairings. One way or another, they are fated to have a notable destiny.
  • Abilities: A demigod’s powers will be based on the portfolio of their divine progenitor. The scion of a fire god, for example, might have fire-based powers, and the chosen one of a god of smithing might have exceptional prowess as a craftsman. Often, a demigod will also have enhanced attributes as well, such as improved strength, durability, luck, and healing. Unlike divinities, demigods can be slain, but they are often destined to ascend to godhood at their progenitor’s side.
  • Origin: Demigods can be created in one of three main ways. The first is as the offspring of a divinity and a mortal. The second is when a divinity or group of divinities choose a mortal to be their chosen agent, imbuing them with divine power and transforming them in the process. The third is when a divinity sculpts a demigod child into physical existence, breathing life and sentience into them. In each case, the result is essentially the same: a creature of the physical world, empowered by the divine.
  • Varieties: Physically, demigods are quite diverse. Many look indistinguishable from mortals, at least a first, though they will often have statuesque features. Others are more monstrous.
  • Personality: Demigods often have personality traits similar to those of their divine progenitor, connected to their portfolio. But not always. Regardless, they often have very bold personalities, driven to extremes of emotions. Because divinities have little understanding of mortal lives, they usually don’t bother raising a demigod of their creation themselves, instead passing them off to a mortal they perceive as appropriate. In the mind of the divinity, they are doing their creation a favor. However for the demigod this often means growing up not knowing one or any of their parents. Demigods who were once mortals are often similarly left to their own devices following their divine intervention.
  • Visibility: Secret. More mundane-looking demigods can pass themselves off as mortals, or at least mutants. But the world isn’t ready to know the truth.
