Alchemist
Type: Elemental
In the past, alchemy was mainly focused on combining reagents into powerful potions, and this is still done today, but alchemists have since developed in two significant directions.
On the one hand, magi continued to develop a magical tradition of elementalism. They became some of the most iconic spellcasters, able to cast blasts of fire, and transform one object into another. Even more so than pure Arcanists, this — the magical command over the physical world — was what the common folk thought of when they thought of wizards.
On the other hand, alchemy is the origin of all modern science. The methods developed by the early alchemists were improved upon. Materials science, modern medicine, weapons technology, even physics all trace their roots back to alchemy. Outside of the Hermetic Order, a modern-day alchemist is much more likely to be wearing a lab coat than holding a staff.
Alchemist Concepts
- Demolitionist: You’re not a spellcaster so much as a bomb-thrower. But you go beyond simple explosions to create bombs with unique effects.
- Natural Philosopher: You’re a potion-brewer, like the alchemists of old. Your brews can do wondrous things, from healing to transformation to granting incredible powers.
- Transmuter: You wield Elemental as a proper magical school, using a focus and a ward. You can summon elemental blasts, cast spells that polymorph, and magically reshape the world around you.
- Weird Scientist: You’re a cutting-edge scientific researcher. As far as you’re concerned there’s nothing mystical about what you do; the wonders you’ve discovered are the result of logic, rational deduction, and a bit of ingenuity.
